"I can attest to this; we were sent surveys for Andre instead of a proposal for him. We thought we would make it to the end of the Libertadores, so we decided not to sell him. A decision based on sports standards was taken."

Andre Trindade has discussed why he chose to remain at Fluminense for the remainder of the season despite Liverpool’s strong summer transfer interest.

Andre, a midfielder for Fluminense, has admitted he passed up the opportunity to go during the summer transfer window despite Liverpool rumours.

The 22-year-old Brazilian is highly regarded by the Reds, who were heavily linked to finalising a deal for him after manager Jurgen Klopp reorganised his starting lineup after Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, James Milner, Jordan Henderson, and Naby Keita left.

The ECHO previously reported Liverpool’s interest in André, who was in talks with Fluminense at the start of August over a move for the defensive midfielder.
The enemy quietly retreated and concentrated their forces on Wataru Endo.

It has been reported that the Brazilian national team does not want to leave until they are eliminated from the Copa Libertadores.

Discussing his future for the first time in an interview ahead of the Libertadores final on November 4, when Fluminense face Argentine giants Boca Juniors, André said: “We haven’t talked about it lately.

This is the first time I talk about it in depth. It was an offer the major league club couldn’t refuse.

“I think every player dreams of playing for a big club in Europe, in a big league.
But when the transfer window closed in January, Diniz (Fluminense manager) came and said he wanted me here before the end of the year, so I decided to keep my promise.

I didn’t know if there would be an offer for that amount and I told him I’d be there until the end of the season no matter what.

"I can attest to this; we were sent surveys for Andre instead of a proposal for him. We thought we would make it to the end of the Libertadores, so we decided not to sell him. A decision based on sports standards was taken."

“It was halfway through the year and we were still in the round of 16 of the Copa Libertadores.
It was a very difficult decision.

I’m not sure I would have felt 100% comfortable if I had accepted the offer because I would have come to an agreement with Diniz.

He talks to me all the time and I really appreciate his words and honesty. I know that if we do the right thing, good things will always happen.

And they said that if I stay in January, I will definitely have to bet and the costs will increase.

“I didn’t have to think about it, I just did the right thing. Our team could be eliminated in the round of 16 of the Copa Libertadores. We have to make a decision. After reaching the final, everyone tells me that I made the right decision.

I think it would be a very honest move on my part to stay and try to help as much as possible to get this title. So today, I was confident that my choice was correct, regardless of whether our team advanced to the quarter-finals, semi-finals or finals. We are now in the final and I will do everything and give my life to win this title.

“I don’t know what will happen at the end of the year, a lot can happen. I know it works and I’m sure coming here has helped me a lot as a person and it’s helped me in my career as well.
As Diniz said, I believe that if we make the right choices, if we are honest and act with integrity, good things will always happen.”

Andre has been under Liverpool’s radar for at least 18 months, and the team is still hoping to close a deal before the January transfer window opens. Since Fluminense’s league season concludes in December, they should be more amenable to transfer negotiations now than they were in the summer.

Mario Bittencourt, the president of Fluminense, previously stated: “The top executive of Liverpool called me directly, making plain that this was the Reds’ situation all along. ‘My friend, I don’t sell a player now and I don’t deliver now,’ I responded to him. We can start talking whether you want to buy now to take in January, or if you prefer to wait until December and talk in December.

“I can attest to this; we were sent surveys for Andre instead of a proposal for him. We thought we would make it to the end of the Libertadores, so we decided not to sell him. A decision based on sports standards was taken.”
