"£50m Star Joins as Salah and Alexander-Arnold Contracts Finalized – Liverpool's Perfect January Transfer Window"

Liverpool’s ideal January transfer window could see two major signings secured, along with the possible addition of a new left-back.

Although Christmas has passed, Liverpool supporters will still be hoping for some of the best possible transfers this month. The January window is now open, giving the Reds the opportunity to pursue new signings if they choose to do so.

For weeks, rumors have circulated about potential targets for Liverpool, though it remains uncertain which, if any, are accurate. It is still early, however, to completely rule out any action in the transfer market.

Recent speculation hasn’t just centered around new arrivals but also on the futures of current players in Arne Slot’s squad. This will likely remain a topic of interest throughout the coming weeks and months. In this article, the Liverpool ECHO explores what an ideal January window for Liverpool might look like if everything goes to plan.

A Trio of Contracts

It’s well-known that Mohamed Salah, Virgil van Dijk, and Trent Alexander-Arnold are all set to see their contracts expire at the end of the season. With January now here, the trio are free to negotiate pre-contract agreements with clubs outside of England for a summer transfer.

Recent updates have kept fans informed about the futures of Salah and Alexander-Arnold, with Real Madrid reportedly having already seen a bid for the latter rejected by Liverpool. However, the fate of all three players remains unclear, though most Liverpool fans would hope to see them all agree to new contracts soon.

If Liverpool were able to secure new deals with Salah, Alexander-Arnold, and Van Dijk, it would undoubtedly mark a dream start to 2025.

Davies Deal Agreed

Alphonso Davies

“Opportunity” has been a key term used to describe Liverpool’s transfer strategy under sporting director Richard Hughes in recent months. This was evident with the acquisition of Federico Chiesa last summer for £12.5 million.

Liverpool are expected to continue scouring the market for value-driven deals, and one potential target could be Bayern Munich left-back Alphonso Davies. Davies’ contract runs out in June, meaning Liverpool could start talks to bring him to Anfield as a free agent next summer. Recent reports suggest that the Reds might be interested in the Canadian international, especially given that left-back is a position where the squad might need reinforcement before next season.

While Davies is still in negotiations with Bayern over a new deal, if an agreement isn’t reached, could Liverpool move quickly to capitalize on this “opportunity”?

Martin Zubimendi Move

Just five months ago, Liverpool were strongly linked with a move for Martin Zubimendi to strengthen their midfield. However, the Spanish international ultimately chose to stay at Real Sociedad rather than make the switch to Anfield.

Zubimendi is said to still have a €60 million (£50 million) release clause in his contract, which Liverpool may look to activate if their interest persists. This time, though, the Reds could face competition from both Manchester City and Arsenal for the midfielder’s signature.

Liverpool are likely to re-enter the race for Zubimendi only if they are given signals that the player is open to a move to Merseyside. Should that happen, it would provide a significant boost to the squad for the second half of the season.
