As Alexis Mac Allister completes the deal, Liverpool’s next five transfer targets

Liverpool have completed their first summer transfer with the arrival of Alexis Mac Allister from Brighton, but there is still work to be done to get past Jurgen Klopp’s midfielder.
Liverpool will continue their search for midfield reinforcements this summer, with Alexis Mac Allister arriving this week as their first signing of the summer.
The Reds have agreed a deal to sign the Argentina midfielder for a fee of £35million. The world champions underwent a medical on Wednesday after being cleared to do so by current club Brighton.
However, he is only expected to be the first signing this summer as the Reds’ transfer strategy takes shape.
Jörg Schmadtke arrived as sporting director last week. The German has been brought on to meet Klopp’s transfer demands as he aims to return to the Champions League next season.
The midfielder is believed to be the main target in the summer deal as James Milner, Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain all left the club before their contracts expired on June 30. The Reds have lost Jude Bellingham, with the Borussia Dortmund midfielder confirmed he has signed for Real Madrid.
However, this means the Reds can now turn their attention to other targets, with The Athletic revealing those who have slipped past the Reds’ radar to form a shortlist.
Bayern Munich’s Ryan Gravenberch has previously been touted as an alternative to Bellingham, which the 21-year-old Dutchman has been linked to in recent reports.
He was joined by 22-year-old French Nice midfielder Kephren Thuram and Romeo Lavia, the latter available having been relegated with Southampton.
Furthermore, Borussia
Mönchengladbach’s Manu Kone and Celta Vigo’s Gabri Veiga have both been mentioned as alternatives, with the Reds keen to revitalize their squad with youthful talent. Meanwhile, reports that Franck Kessie could join the club have been branded ‘fake news’ by his agent.
A £30m move from Barcelona has been suggested before.
Liverpool will see a change in transfer traction this summer due to their lack of Champions League qualification and the limited financial resources at their disposal.
This was explained by Klopp earlier this year when the Liverpool boss discussed the Reds’ transfer plans and hinted at a different approach as they enter what will hopefully be a new era.
“I never understood why we keep talking about things that we theoretically can’t have,” the German said in April.
“We can’t have six players for £100m each in the summer, for example. It’s clear.” “You have to recognize what you can do and then you have to work with it. How much money do we have? Then we work with. This is the job you have to do.
“What we need and what we want, we try absolutely everything to get it.” But there are times when we have to accept that this or that is not possible for us and step back and do something else.
