Liverpool fans are calling for more transfer action after the club signed Alexis Mac Allister for £35m and Jurgen Klopp still needs reinforcements
Jurgen Klopp may have a big signing ahead of him this summer but his job is far from done as a number of players need replacing.
James Milner, Naby Keita, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Roberto Firmino are all leaving the club on free transfers, with speculation over Joel Matip’s future as well.
Alexis Mac Allister came from Brighton for £35million but the club have been linked with a number of other players.
The club face a disrupted season due to their Europa League involvement, with Klopp inevitably aiming to secure a Champions League return in time for the 2024/25 campaign.
It remains to be seen how seriously they take UEFA’s second-tier competition, but the Germany coach wants a strong squad so they can compete on all fronts at home again. Here are some of the key transfer conversations to emerge from Anfield.
Liverpool’s hopes of nabbing Ajax defender Jurrien Timber appear to be fading.
Along with Manchester United, the Reds are closely linked to the 22-year-old, with his girlfriend reportedly looking for a home on Merseyside. Bayern Munich are also in the running for the Dutch national team, but according to Football London, Timber’s favorite destination is the Emirates.
It would be another transfer market hit for Klopp if the centre-back opts for Arsenal and Mikel Arteta. The Reds are still suffering from the failed pursuit of England star Jude Bellingham, who joined from Real Madrid for £88.5m last week.
Ryan Gravenberch has paved the way for Bayern Munich’s departure this summer and could spur Liverpool into action.
“To be honest, yes I am,” Gravenberch told ESPN when asked if he was disappointed with his lack of playing time at Bayern this season.
“I expected to play more minutes than I actually did. I thought I would get more chances.” It’s just about wanting to play, that’s the most important thing at my age. I hope it will work at Bayern, otherwise we will have to keep looking.
“I want to play, but the coach chooses other players. I have to accept it, but it’s difficult. I was hoping for more minutes, but I have to stay calm.
” I’ve told everyone I don’t want another year like that. Obviously you can’t always be in the starting eleven, but you can still play regularly, you can earn a lot of minutes.”

Exclusive: A LFC expert identifies the midfielder who Liverpool should most likely sign.
According to Neil Jones’ exclusive column for CaughtOffside, Liverpool is most likely to make a move for Nice midfielder Khephren Thuram during this summer’s transfer window.
Thuram has performed well in Ligue 1 and fits the type of player Jurgen Klopp has usually preferred to sign for the Reds. Jones believes Thuram will be a top priority this summer over some of the other names who have been linked.
Liverpool had a challenging season in 2022–23, and it is evident that the midfield is a weak spot. Jones has highlighted the need for additional midfield reinforcements despite the club having already signed Alexis Mac Allister from Brighton.
Though he acknowledged that Gabri Veiga, a young player for Celta Vigo, likely has some level of interest that could be revisited later, the journalist believes that Liverpool need a physical player in the mold of Thuram more than anyone else.
Midfield remains a priority for Liverpool in this summer’s transfer market, Jones said, even though the acquisition of Alexis MacAllister may be finalized.
“Mac Allister is a significant acquisition to expand Jurgen Klopp’s options, but the club had always ideally desired two or even three new additions in that position, it has never been a secret.
Naturally, Khephren Thuram and Manu Kone have been mentioned. According to my understanding, Thuram is the most likely candidate out of those; based on his description, physique, age, the club he plays for, and the amount of money involved, I believe he is a perfect fit.
It is unclear how willing Nice will be to let him go, and I believe that given the number of midfielders who appear to be likely to move soon in this market, Nice may simply be watching to see how the dominoes fall and what kind of price they can fetch for him.
“However, I believe Liverpool and Thuram have identified him as someone they want, even though there hasn’t been much movement in the last week and a price hasn’t yet been set. ”.
