Liverpool could encounter an unexpected Levi Colwill problem. As Chelsea turns the tables on Jörg Schmadtke
Liverpool may have thought they had the upper hand in the race for Levi Colwill, but the landscape is very different now to earlier summer.

Liverpool reportedly pushed hard to sign Mason Mount from Chelsea, but the midfielder opted instead for arch-rivals Manchester United.

According to The Athletic, the Reds were willing to pay Mount a salary at the same ballpark (at least $321,000/£250,000/€292,000 a week with bonuses) as United, and made an offer to do so.

Eventually, the club had no choice but to move on to other targets and were able to sign Dominik Szoboszlai from RB Leipzig for almost the same fee of $76m (£60m/€70m).

It was somewhat surprising that Liverpool even went after Mount from the start, not because he wouldn’t be a good fit for Jürgen Klopp’s side, but because they would normally consider a player from a Premier League rival off-limits.

Yes, he had just one year left on his contract, but it’s telling that Liverpool haven’t signed a Chelsea player on a permanent basis since Daniel Sturridge in 2012. And it’s also fair to say that Mount was a far more important figure for the Blues .

But on the way to the window, Liverpool knew Chelsea would be in a weak position. The Times reported that the Blues would need a “fire sale” to ensure they could meet financial fair play rules in the face of a record $770m (£600m/€700m) outlay under Todd Boehly and two losing seasons, partly the result of the sanctions imposed on the club in the last mob of the Roman Abramovich era.

Furthermore, Chelsea had an added incentive to sell academy graduates like Mount as they could count the transfers as pure profit on his books.

But less than a month into the window, which only opened on June 14, the club allayed their concerns with a masterful series of deals totaling $242m (£189m/£221m euros).

As the $156 million reality surfaces, Liverpool’s summer transfer spending might not be over. https://footballtopstar.com/as-the-156-million-reality-surfaces-liverpools-summer-transfer-spending-might-not-be-over/
The rather sudden rise to prominence in the Saudi Pro League has benefited them, with Kalidou Koulibaly and Édouard Mendy taking a total of $46m (£36m/€42m) from their respective moves to Al-Hilal and Al-Ahli, but like us, it’s also where they’ve secured hugely competitive fees for young stars like Kai Havertz (US$83m/£65m/€76m) and Mount.

Liverpool still have a strong interest in one of Chelsea’s England campaigners – centre-back Levi Colwill (according to David Lynch/The Redmen TV) – but now it’s the Reds who are in a weaker negotiating position due to restrictions regulations.

Liverpool were only able to name 24 players instead of 25 to their Premier League squad last season as they could not meet their self-imposed quota of eight players and have since removed Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and James Milner from that list already reduced.

Curtis Jones could fill one of the spots but previous Liverpool signings – Szoboszlai and Alexis Mac Allister – failed to solve the problem.

In short, it is important, although not essential, that the club bring a local or a young person under the age of 22 to their next move.

It’s a safe bet that rival clubs are aware of this predicament and willing to capitalize on Liverpool’s new weakness by demanding service after the club slipped to fifth place. Since only release clauses have been activated so far, this issue is still open.

Chelsea are already reluctant to sell Colwill. The Guardian have reported they have no plans to sack the defender after rejecting a $39million bid from Brighton. Instead, it is hoped to tie him to a new long-term contract and end the speculation.

But even if he were to turn down a new contract because he sees no chance in the first team, and Chelsea are at least willing to consider approaches, it will be a very difficult negotiation for Liverpool.

Sporting director and chief negotiator Jörg Schmadtke should know that it would be a big challenge to reach an acceptable agreement.

Arsenal and Liverpool could boost their transfer hopes with Kylian Mbappe.

Arsenal and Liverpool could agree a surprise £85million deal for Federico Valverde or Aurelien Tchouameni, while Real Madrid are hoping to raise funds to buy Kylian Mbappe. According to reports in the Spanish media, Los Blancos are ready to sell one of the midfielders this summer.

Madrid are desperate to finally make the long-awaited transfer of French star Mbappé. They are aware that they could finally have a chance to assert themselves in the coming months as the striker is likely to leave Paris Saint-Germain.

Mbappe’s contract with PSG is just one year old and it is widely reported that he is interested in leaving the club once his deal expires. However, the Parisians don’t want to lose their best player for nothing and want to recoup at least some of the £165m they paid Monaco in 2017.

It has been claimed that Madrid are making a huge offer for Mbappe. However, they may have to sell one of their biggest stars which could mean a big boost for Arsenal and Liverpool.

According to Spanish journalist Juan Ignacio G-Ochoa, the La Liga giants will make Valverde and Tchouameni available for around £68-85m.

Arsenal and Liverpool have both been linked with the duo. Speaking to Radio Marca about Real’s deal, the journalist said: “They will make a very big investment for Kylian. They could sell Valverde or Tchouameni and bring in 80-100 million euros if an offer comes along.

While a £68-85m outlay for either club would eat up much of both clubs’ remaining budgets, signing either player would complete their respective rejuvenation. in the middle of the field.

Meanwhile, Mbappe has hinted at another move after claiming a career should be ‘selfish’ and stressing he was ‘never satisfied’. Speaking to L’Equipe, the 24-year-old said: “I push my own limits first. People don’t really like it when they say that, but a career is selfish, it’s the yours is what you leave behind.”

“Actually, I’m always dissatisfied, so I’m never impressed with what I do. It’s already the first key to understanding myself, because in everything I do, I tell myself that I can do it again and better.”
