Chelsea is preparing a new bid for Moisés Caicedo, after missing the Brighton friendly

After the midfielder skipped Sunday’s friendly match between Brighton and Rayo Vallecano, Chelsea is prepared to submit a fresh offer for the player.

Mauricio Pochettino is determined to bolster his midfield before the start of the upcoming campaign, and Chelsea, who are also seriously considering a move for Tyler Adams of Leeds, remain optimistic about their chances of signing Caicedo.

The most recent offer, for up to £80 million, was rejected by Brighton, who now value the Ecuadorian international at £100 million. Caicedo’s desire to move to Stamford Bridge gives Chelsea more leverage even though they haven’t yet reached that amount. According to Brighton, the 21-year-old was unable to play in the draw against Vallecano due to a tight hamstring.

Chelsea is still expected to sign Caicedo, even if it means spending £100 million to land their top target. The Stamford Bridge club is lacking in depth and experience in the midfield after losing Jorginho, Mateo Kovacic, Ruben Loftus-Cheek, and Mason Mount. When Pochettino’s new team drew 1-1 with Borussia Dortmund in their final preseason friendly, he deployed a midfield trio consisting of Enzo Fernández, Conor Gallagher, and Carney Chukwuemeka.

Chelsea, which will play host to Liverpool on Sunday, has looked at Caicedo’s replacements. They may activate Adams’ £20 million relegation release clause if they show interest in him. Leandro Paredes, a 29-year-old Argentinean international playing for Paris Saint-Germain, would provide crucial experience, and Chelsea is still in the running to sign Southampton’s Roméo Lavia. Another option for Chelsea is Edson Lvarez, but West Ham is getting close to signing the Ajax midfielder. Lvarez is being pursued by West Ham for £30 million. The Mexico international, who has already agreed to personal terms with the east London club, is expected to cost them between £35 million and £40 million.

After agreeing to sell Gianluca Scamacca to Atalanta in a deal worth up to €30 million (£26 million), West Ham, who has not yet made a signing for the summer, may move for Chelsea striker Armando Broja. After moving to West Ham last summer for £35.5 million, Scamacca was unable to settle.

The future of Broja may depend on whether Chelsea, who have already bolstered their attack with the additions of Nicolas Jackson and Christopher Nkunku, sign another forward. Romelu Lukaku’s nightmare at Chelsea would come to an end if Juventus were to bring him back to Italy in exchange for the Serbian striker Dusan Vlahovic. Gabri Veiga of Celta Vigo and Michael Olise of Crystal Palace are two attacking midfielders that Chelsea is still keeping an eye on in their search. Mohammed Kudus of Ajax has been under their radar, but Brighton is on the verge of breaking their transfer record by bringing the Ghanaian national to the English-speaking city for about £35 million.
