Alexis Mac Allister: Liverpool midfielder’s red card against Bournemouth was overturned after an appeal

Liverpool midfielder Alexis Mac Allister received a direct red card from referee Thomas Bramall for a challenge on Bournemouth’s Ryan Christie; Mac Allister would be suspended for Liverpool’s next three matches against Newcastle, Aston Villa and Wolves, but he will no longer serve the ban
Alexis Mac Allister’s red card against Bournemouth on Saturday was canceled by the FA after Liverpool’s appeal against the midfielder’s three-match ban was upheld.
Mac Allister was sent off by referee Thomas Bramall for a challenge on Ryan Christie just before half time during Liverpool’s 3-1 win over Bournemouth at Anfield, with his side leading 2-1 at the time.
The World Cup winner would be suspended for Liverpool’s next three matches against Newcastle, Aston Villa and Wolves, but he will not serve a further suspension.
“An independent regulatory body has lifted the three-match suspension of Alexis Mac Allister following a complaint of wrongful dismissal,” the FA said via its spokesperson account on Twitter.
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp said after Saturday’s game: “Everything was missing for a red card.” He told Sky Sports: “We have to talk about it and everyone agrees. I 100 per cent understand what it looks like to the referee in that moment, but when you see him again it’s the inside of the foot without power.
“We faced tougher challenges that weren’t red cards, when they should have been. I think we should talk about it. If he had said it was a yellow card, VAR wouldn’t have turned it into a red card. “Everything is missing for a red card, intensity. Yes, there was contact, but with a red card there must be a different intention. We’ll talk about it with the people.”
Ref Watch: Mac Allister was unfairly sent off
Former Premier League referee Dermot Gallagher told Sky Sports News Mac Allister shouldn’t have seen a red.
He said: ‘It’s not a red card for me. The problem here is that the referee thinks it’s a high tackle, but the only reason that happens is because both players are present. “The boot actually hits him in the ankle. If his foot is on the ground and it catches him in the same place, it’s not a high tackle.
“They have both feet on the ground, no red card for me. Liverpool should convince the jury that it is a clear and blatant error by the referee to win an appeal.”
Former Liverpool defender Stephen Warnock agrees with Gallagher and believes he should be retired.
He told Sky Sports News: “It’s clear and obvious that we have to go out the window. Good and evil must enter.
“Is that a red card, yes or no? Did you make a mistake, yes or no? That’s not a red card. It has to be disallowed.”
Dean: Mac Allister went in high
Former Premier League referee Mike Dean talks football on Saturday:
“He went pretty high. There’s not a lot of power in the challenge, but he caught it high enough. It’s just a lazy leg.
“He probably won’t have the challenge. He caught it in the shin.
“It’s not a bad decision by the referee.” He came in with the cleats visible and grabbed him in the shin.
“VAR would have looked into it. They are satisfied with Tom [referee Thomas Brammall]’s decision and the game begins.

Liverpool in negotiation with Premier League club to sign £70million player
Liverpool have now reportedly been in talks with Crystal Palace over Cheick Doucours, with the Reds having been heavily linked with the midfielder in recent weeks.
According to the Daily Mail, the Anfield side have held talks with the south London side over the 23-year-old, with Doucoure being one of Liverpool’s top targets in the final days of the summer window.
The Daily Mail previously reported that Palace are asking for up to £70m for the Mali international, a transfer fee that could deter Liverpool from a potential deal for the midfielder.
Hailed as an “outstanding” player by Breaking The Lines, Doucoure is a perfect match for what Liverpool are looking for in a fourth and final midfielder to sign this window.
And this latest update on the Reds’ negotiations with Palace is encouraging as a deal for Doucour looks more realistic than many had initially imagined. Indeed, a hefty sum may still be needed to bring Doucoure to Merseyside, but talks with Palace mean Liverpool could finalize a deal for the youngster in the coming days.
Liverpool must do everything they can to sign Doucoure
Liverpool’s search for a new signing appears to be narrowing, with Doucoure a player the Reds are clearly keen to sign if a fee can be agreed with Palace for the midfielder.
With a Premier League season under his belt, Doucoure has impressed enough to show signs that he can become a real star for one of the biggest clubs in all of England.
And Liverpool can be that team, with Jürgen Klopp needing a defensive midfielder, the platform the Malian international needs to take his game to new heights and become a Premier League superstar.
