A reporter suggests Liverpool could make a shocking move today to sign a ‘brilliant’ champion player

Sunderland midfielder Dan Neil could be up for a transfer deadline, with Liverpool sending scouts to keep an eye on him.

Neil has been a key player for Sunderland in recent seasons.

After attending the academy he made over a hundred appearances for the club, with Black Cats legend Kevin Phillips referring to him as a ‘brilliant’ [Sunderland Echo] player.

And according to reporter Mike McGrath, that has gotten the attention of some of the biggest parties in the country. Taking to Twitter this morning, McGrath hinted that the 21-year-old could be on his way today, with Liverpool named as an interested party.

“Sunderland central midfielder Dan Neil on Premier League clubs’ radar on deadline day,” says the reporter.

“Liverpool have sent scouts to observe the England under-20 team, who played regularly in League One and the Championship as a teenager.”

About half an hour later, McGrath reported that Sunderland had indeed turned down an offer for Neil, but not for Liverpool.

“Burnley have rejected a loan + commitment offer from Sunderland and are considering another offer,” he says.

Neil may not be a household name to many Liverpool fans but he looks like an impressive young midfielder.

Considering the Reds saw their grow spaces sell out this summer, you can see why a move would make sense.

Aston Villa injury news: The latest updates from Unai Emery’s side as they prepare for the game against Liverpool. Philippe Coutinho could seal a transfer exit and is also missing.

Philippe Coutinho hasn’t had the best time since leaving Liverpool in 2018, while his inflated transfer fee allowed the Reds to sign Alisson Becker and Virgil van Dijk and win the draw.

Phillippe Coutinho

Ex-Liverpool attacking midfielder Philippe Coutinho is likely to be missing for a while, but he may not even be an Aston Villa player when he gets into the game, thanks to transfer interests from a number of places.

Fabrizio Romano reports (on Twitter/X) that Beşiktaş and Real Betis are both options for the Brazilian, with Emery willing to lose the Barcelona player to Gerrard. Coutinho is currently out with a hamstring injury but that shouldn’t hold him back for long. Despite brilliant performances in the Midlands, he just doesn’t look like the same player as before his dream move to Camp Nou.
