According to a report, Liverpool could finish rebuilding their midfield as soon as the January transfer window opens, with a fifth addition being valued at £30 million.
It was always anticipated that Anfield would undergo a significant renovation this summer. In fact, there were many arrivals needed because free agents James Milner, Naby Keita, and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain had to leave.
But after Jordan Henderson and Fabinho were lured to Saudi Arabia, it was obvious that three or four players were needed rather than just one or two.
While the option to buy in Arthur Melo’s loan deal was ignored, Leighton Clarkson joined Aberdeen outright in another situation.
Alexis Mac Allister (£35 million) and Dominik Szoboszlai (£60 million) were quickly acquired by Liverpool from Brighton and RB Leipzig, respectively.
Spirits were dampened by unsuccessful attempts to sign Moises Caicedo and Romeo Lavia, both of whom signed with Chelsea. The arrival of Wataru Endo from Stuttgart for £16 million and the signing of Ryan Gravenberch (Bayern Munich) on the final day of the transfer window helped to dispel the doom.
However, the Liverpool Echo reports that a fifth midfielder could very well be added in January.
Brazilian Andre is a target for Liverpool.

In fact, during the most recent summer transfer window, Liverpool sought out Brazilian international Andre Trindade from Fluminense.
According to Sky Sports, the 22-year-old was “sold” on the idea of signing with the Reds, who allegedly sent a verbal offer worth €30 million (£25 point 5 million).
Fluminense, however, was adamant that they would not consider a mid-season sale, particularly while still participating in the Copa Libertadores.
Fluminense advanced to the knockout stages of that competition, which is the South American version of the Champions League.
The Paraguayan team Olimpia was defeated by Fluminense on Thursday, 5-1 on aggregate, to advance to the semifinals. Thus, Liverpool’s chances of making a last-minute purchase before Friday’s 11:59 p.m. deadline day vanished.
The Liverpool Echo, however, claims that the transfer could be revived in January after the Brazilian domestic season is over. They cite a slightly higher transfer valuation of £30 million.
A January 2024 exit “will now be in Andre’s sights,” the report states. And when Thiago Alcantara becomes a free agent in six months, Liverpool will have already lost him.
As a result, the article’s conclusion is that Andre could join Liverpool as Thiago’s potential replacement. Liverpool has recently used the tactic of signing a replacement in the year before an anticipated departure quite frequently.
In actuality, Luis Diaz had been signed for six months before Sadio Mane was sold. In the year before Roberto Firmino left as a free agent, Darwin Nunez and Cody Gakpo both joined.
In other news, there are unconfirmed reports that Liverpool and Fluminense are already in talks about Andre’s January transfer.

Mohamed Salah has “agreement” with Saudi Arabia as Liverpool transfer offer for $38m star ‘awaited’

Media Digest: Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah has reportedly agreed a deal with Al Ittihad as a Bundesliga side face a $38m transfer bid.
Offer from Manu Koné “expected”
Bundesliga outfit Borussia Mönchengladbach ‘expect’ Liverpool to make an offer for midfielder Manu Koné before the transfer deadline expires, BILD’s Christian Falk writes in his daily briefing. Koné is now back from injury and could be available for a relatively cheap price.
“There is also Manu Koné to consider (for Liverpool),” Falk wrote. “I have heard that Gladbach are also expecting an offer from Liverpool soon, as they have become cheaper after his injury.” “Before, a suitor had to pay about $54 million; now you may be able to get it for around $38 million. So it’s up to Liverpool to take the next step. PSG are still interested in Kone, so there could be serious competition for the player if Liverpool enter the fray.”
Wataru Endō was signed from Stuttgart last week, but getting another player across the line for midfield wouldn’t be a bad thing, as long as it doesn’t hinder a future signing of a player Liverpool really want. (i.e. the later Moisés Caicedo).
Mohamed Salah to Saudi Arabia latest
Italian journalist Rudy Galetti has said Mohamed Salah would be open to a contract with Saudi side Al Ittihad, but the final decision would depend on Liverpool’s decision to raise funds – and the Reds are not among those keen to participate.
TV channel beIN Sports (via Al Jazeera) reported earlier this week that Salah has agreed a salary package with the Saudi Arabian outfit, but the final decision will rest with Liverpool. At this point in the summer, losing Salah would be unthinkable.
It makes sense that a massive salary is on offer for one of the biggest and most marketable players in the world. Neymar moved to Saudi Arabia, but Salah would surpass even that figure.
However, it would be a disappointment if the player chose money over staying in the best and most competitive league in the world. For Liverpool, the sooner a Salah switch can be categorically ruled out, the better.
