He wanted me at all costs’: The 35-year-old now admits Antonio Conte was desperate to sign him for Chelsea
Share
Radja Nainggolan has now revealed that Antonio Conte wanted to sign him for Chelsea “at all costs” during his time as manager at Stamford Bridge.
The Belgian said this while speaking to Controcalcio on YouTube.
What did Radja Nainggolan say?
We see…
What’s the story?
Well, the 35-year-old was a top player in his prime.
Nainggolan won the Serie A title in 2021 and was also in the Serie A team of the year for four seasons, from 2014/15 to 2017/18.
Conte only played at Chelsea from 2016 to 2018, so the Italian attempted to sign Nainggolan while he was at Roma – a period that was undoubtedly the pinnacle of his career – so he would be a strong signing.
Unfortunately, a transfer to Chelsea did not materialize.
The Antwerp maestro said: “I had more fun with Spalletti than with anyone else, even Conte was good.
At Inter I no longer fit into Conte’s plan, he was clearly against me, but he remains a great coach.
In Chelsea, he wanted at all costs, then I went to Inter and he looked.
It is strange to hear that Conte absolutely wanted Nainggolan between 2016 and 2018, but then decided to freeze it when its paths crossed Inter Milan a few years later.
Chelsea was fine without Radja Nainggolan
In truth – despite its great characteristics – we are not sure how Nainggolan would have been in good shape in Chelsea.
The 54-year-old man has generally settled with a 3-4-2-1 training, because Nemanja Matic, Cesc Fabregas and N’Golo Edge often arrested the midfielder.
As an offensive midfielder, Nainggolan could have played in one of the two available places, even if Pedro, Eden Hazard and Willian have been enough depth.
So we don’t really know where Tale Nainggolan would have played.
Maybe it was the best thing that an agreement did not come.

What Chelsea’s Moises Caicedo did to Lionel Messi on international duty final night
Chelsea midfielder Moises Caicedo showed exactly what he is capable of last night as he took on the greatest player of all time.
In a tweet from the Chelsea Dodgers, you can see how the record signing is a powerful tackle on Lionel Messi and leaves him grounded.
Caicedo’s Ecuadorian side faced Enzo Fernandez’s Argentina in a World Cup qualifier featuring the two most expensive players in Chelsea history.
The latter came out on top in that clash and Messi scored late in the day in a way so often seen.
It was a solid performance from both Blues last night, with Caicedo seemingly on a mission to win the ball back on his own.
The two didn’t engage in particularly physical confrontations, which caused fans to breathe a sigh of relief given how often these matches took place.
Caicedo pushes Messi
He threatened to reach that level when the 21-year-old Chelsea player sharply challenged Messi, resulting in a foul.
Caicedo hopes to be able to take advantage of the international break to return to his best level when club football returns.
It was a mixed start to life at Stamford Bridge for the player, who was signed for big money late in the game.
He has been directly linked to some of the goals conceded by the club in their opening three league matches.
However, there have been times when the midfielder has shown exactly what he can do and when he returns to west London there will certainly be something to build on
