Patrick Dorgu

Since Jurgen Klopp took over at Anfield, Andrew Robertson of Liverpool has been one of the German coach’s most reliable players, but there’s no getting around the fact that the Scot will turn 30 before the 2023–24 season is over.

It appears that the German faces a challenge in trying to lower the average age of his team while keeping enough experience for the Reds to remain competitive.

According to Gazzetta dello Sport (via FourFourTwo), Klopp appears to be keeping tabs on Patrick Dorgu, a 18-year-old left-back who is Nigerian and Danish for Lecce.

A player who might be the long-term replacement for Robertson is reportedly of interest to Man City and Barcelona as well.

After a less-than-pleasant 2022/23 season in which Liverpool didn’t even make the Champions League, the Reds’ stellar start to the current campaign is a testament to the diligence of Klopp and his coaching staff.

There may not be a need to upset the apple cart by challenging the players who have returned Liverpool to the top of European football, unless they falter toward the end of this season.

Even though Robertson has room for improvement in some areas, he plays a key role in how Liverpool plays under Klopp, and he still has a good number of years left in him.

There is a strong case to be made that Dorgu is not an acquisition that is required at this point because Kostas Tsimikas serves as a capable replacement when needed.

Liverpool is allegedly interested in a Brazilian defender.

Michail Antonio declares Liverpool to have "won"  As he speaks out about his embarrassing pre-match remarks

Still looking for a defender is the Reds. With a brand-new midfield but no additional defenders, Liverpool closed the summer transfer window with a bang.
It’s obvious that the center-back position needs to be filled with fresh talent.
The injury table is a point of contention for 32-year-old captain Virgil van Dijk’s teammates Ibrahima Konaté and Jol Matip like it’s the final musical chair.

Although Liverpool hasn’t historically done much business in the winter, they have been known to make exceptions if the need is great enough or the player is talented enough.
The ideal illustration of that would be van Dijk himself, with whom the Reds finally agreed to a contract in January 2018.

The Brazilian player Lucas Beraldo is one that Klopp and company are reportedly considering right now to fill the need in defense.
Currently, Beraldo represents Sao Paulo in his native Brazil.

The English and European teams are reportedly interested in him, according to the Brazilian media.

In addition to the Reds, Wolves and Newcastle United are also rumored to be contenders, and teams like Porto, Benfica, and Monaco are also being mentioned. The center back, who is 19 years old and also plays for Brazil’s U20 team, made his team debut last year.

He wouldn’t be the player vying for position next to van Dijk if he did make it to Merseyside.
Up until Klopp saw evidence of his abilities, he would hold down at least fourth place in the pecking order.

He might have been a good long-term project and a nice fit for the team, according to the scouting reports.

It’s possible, but it’s more likely that they’re just spreading false information and will soon disappear from the map.
