Caoimhin Kelleher is thrilled that Jurgen Klopp made a choice for Liverpool this season. At Anfield, the goalie is still regarded as backup.
In 2022, Caoimhin Kelleher truly became well-known. He appeared like he would continue to improve after shining in the Carabao Cup final as Liverpool won the cup.
This followed multiple Premier League and Champions League first-team outings. Up until the previous season, everything appeared fine.
Kelleher made just three appearances during the 2022–2023 season. That was it—one in the Premier League and two in the Carabao Cup. 301 football minutes.
For the Irishman, that may be considered something of a disaster. Although he will turn 25 later this month, he is no longer a particularly young athlete, and the lack of football has caused his stock to fall.
Kelleher has benefited greatly by Liverpool’s increased usage of him this season; in fact, he is probably the key reason for their participation in the Europa League. The goalie has actually played in and appeared in more games already this season than he did the entire previous one.
It should come as no surprise that Kelleher is overjoyed that Jurgen Klopp has started him in games this year. That’s exactly what the player discussed in an interview with Liverpoolfc.com.
“I’m obviously very happy that the manager has trusted me to start the games in this competition and also getting the League Cup games so far as well,” he stated. It has benefited me and has provided me a significant amount of playing time.
Thus, Kelleher is gradually attempting to restore that reputation, and this season, she will have the opportunity to do so. It’s unknown exactly what his long-term plans are; he might like to move on the next year.
For the time being, though, he is Liverpool’s competent Europa League custodian and should be able to help the team win further cups.

Jamie Carragher lists the final two transfers Liverpool must complete to win title
After Sunday’s draw at Luton, Liverpool lost momentum in the Premier League title battle. Jamie Carragher highlighted that the team still needs two players to seriously challenge Man City.
In order to position Liverpool as championship contenders in the Premier League this season, Jamie Carragher is adamant that they need to bring in a new holding midfielder and full-back.
The former Reds defender discussed how simpler it was to counterattack against Luton during Jurgen Klopp’s team’s disappointing 1-1 draw with them as opposed to Manchester City, who had won five of the previous six Premier League titles.
This outcome keeps Liverpool three points behind Pep Guardiola’s team, who crushed Bournemouth 6-1 on Saturday, and in third place in the standings. In their first six road games this season in the division, the Reds have only triumphed twice.
Carragher thinks that in order for Liverpool to contend for the championship, they still need a specialist holding midfielder. He said to Sky Sports on Sunday, “Liverpool’s midfield is much better than it was last season, but they still don’t have a top holding midfield player.”
“MacAllister’s not a holding midfield player,” mirror Carragher continued. He’s got strong receiving skills, but he struggles defensively and lacks some speed for that position, so I believe they can still get better there.
With Andy Robertson out due to injury, concerns were also raised about Liverpool’s defensive cover in the full-back positions. Since then, Kostas Tsimikas and Joe Gomez have filled the position, but Carragher thinks it’s more crucial to add a right-back.
“I think Liverpool could do with a great defender who can play a couple of positions in the back four, rather than so much a player for a specific position,” he continued. They decided to start Gomez at left back today rather than Tsimikas because they believed he would be more capable in defence.
“I still believe that Liverpool could use another player in that position. Trent could be released into midfield at different times, and you could play someone there against certain opponents who is maybe tougher and stronger defensively.”
In summarising his views on Liverpool’s current situation, Carragher predicts that although Klopp’s team has improved from the group that finished an unimpressive fifth last season, they will not be able to launch a meaningful title challenge.
“I believe Liverpool is not prepared to win the league,” asserted the ex-defender. “Jurgen Klopp and Liverpool fans, I believe, are aware of that at this time. They aim to return to the top four, but I believe they need a better defender and another midfielder to be competitive once more
