Predicted starting lineup for Liverpool vs Sheffield United
Share
Liverpool’s next must-win matchup is against Sheffield United at Anfield on Thursday night when they return to Premier League action.
After Liverpool defeated Brighton 2-1 on Sunday afternoon, thanks to goals from Mohamed Salah and Luis Diaz, the Reds took back the top spot in the standings.
After a goalless draw, both Manchester City and Arsenal dropped points in their match on Sunday night, and Jurgen Klopp’s team prevailed over the Seagulls as a result.
The Premier League, however, is never idle, as Liverpool takes on the faltering Blades midweek.
Although Liverpool’s injury problems are beginning to get better, they still have a lot of injury worries going into their match against Chris Wilder’s team, and Klopp will have some difficult decisions to make over the starting lineup.
This is how Sheffield United and Liverpool may lineup.
Defenders and goalkeepers
Although Klopp is unlikely to make many changes after Liverpool’s victory over Brighton, he might be compelled to make one or two given that Manchester United is on the schedule the following weekend.
Alisson is still a few weeks away from rejoining the training field, therefore Caoimhin Kelleher will continue to start in the Liverpool goal, while captain Virgil van Dijk is a given.
With Trent Alexander-Arnold still out, Conor Bradley is expected to stay at right-back, while Andy Robertson might not return as quickly following his scare with Scotland. Joe Gomez might therefore start at left back once more.
Ibrahima Konate hasn’t played much lately, but Jarell Quansah has been outstanding in his place. However, after getting fit, Konate might make a comeback to the starting lineup.
Ibrahima Konate has been great in Jarell Quansah’s absence, but after showing adequate fitness to play on Sunday, Konate might make a comeback to the starting lineup.
Midfielders
Curtis Jones should be back in the squad for the match against Sheffield United, which is excellent news for Klopp, but it’s unlikely that he will start after missing six weeks of action.
Harvey Elliott is a great backup option, and Ryan Gravenberch made his first appearance since the Carabao Cup final against Brighton off the bench.
Wataru Endo, positioned at the base of the triangle, allows the midfield to select itself most of the time right now.
In his preferred box-to-box role, Alexis Mac Allister, who stole the show against his former employers on Sunday, will likely start again. Dominik Szoboszlai is also expected to start.
Forwards
Diogo Jota has been out for some time, but he is getting closer to rejoining the Reds. He was recently seen returning to the training field.
Due to his recent struggles and decline in the hierarchy, Cody Gakpo has lost favour with Liverpool’s attacking line, which also picked itself on Thursday.
The starting left flanker for the Blades will be Luis Diaz, who was outstanding against Brighton. Mohamed Salah will be looking to add to his 16 Premier League goals.
Following a largely quiet game against the Seagulls, Darwin Nunez will start at the front of the line. The Uruguayan earned a point in the 2-0 triumph in the rematch that took place in December.
