Liverpool may make significant summer spending to make up for the loss of Jurgen Klopp.

According to reports, Liverpool sent scouts to Portugal on Sunday to have a closer look at three potential summer transfer targets. Michael Edwards, the club’s CEO of Football, is already hard at work creating a long-term recruitment strategy in the wake of beloved manager Jurgen Klopp’s departure.

After Klopp leaves, Sporting manager Ruben Amorim appears to be in the lead to take over at Anfield. On Sunday, he managed a 3-0 victory over Vitoria de Guimaraes, with goals from Pedro Goncalves and the in-form attacker Viktor Gyokeres.

Gyokeres was the major focus of Liverpool scouts who were present, according to HITC. The Reds are rumoured to be interested in promising defender Goncalo Inacio as well as controlling centre midfielder Morten Hjulmand.

With Benfica as their closest rivals, Sporting is 10 points ahead of them as they continue their march towards their first Portuguese league title since 2021. All three stars played the entire ninety minutes.

The scouting trip is a foreshadowing of Liverpool moving forward with significant business in the summer transfer window, when sporting director Richard Hughes and incoming football boss Edwards will have a chance to impress fans.

With an incredible 34 goal contributions in 29 league appearances since leaving Coventry City for Sporting last summer, Gyokeres has been a huge success story. At the end of the season, the 25-year-old striker might be available for £69 million, according to sources.

Sporting reportedly placed the same high price tag on Hjulmand, a Danish international who joined the Portuguese team in 2023 after leaving Lecce. If Liverpool don’t move swiftly, Manchester United and Tottenham might challenge Liverpool for the 24-year-old’s signature.

Meanwhile, Inacio is obligated under a contract that purportedly contains a £52 million release clause. Purchasing all three players might cost Liverpool a total of £190 million, but Sporting will undoubtedly fight if they lose their highly regarded manager Amorim.

According to reports, the 39-year-old is the Reds’ top target after Xabi Alonso promised to stay with Bayer Leverkusen for another season. Amorim is believed to be more important than Germany head coach Julian Nagelsmann and Brighton manager Roberto De Zerbi.

Although it might be a stretch for Liverpool to pay enough money to entice Gyokeres, Hjulmand, and teenage center-back Inacio from Portugal, room will be made on the wage bill this summer as Thiago Alcantara and Joel Matip both get closer to leaving.
