Arne Slot, the manager of Feyenoord, has emerged as a strong candidate for the Liverpool position this summer, while Anfield officials are showing less interest in Ruben Amorim of Sporting CP.

In the event that Feyenoord lose Arne Slot to Liverpool, they have selected FC Twente manager Joseph Oosting as one of their top managerial targets.

Slot has become a strong candidate to succeed Jurgen Klopp at Anfield this summer, and it is now known that Liverpool and Feyenoord have initiated formal negotiations on a possible deal.

There is no release clause in his current Rotterdam contract, which has two years remaining. As a result, the Reds will need to negotiate a compensation deal for the 45-year-old Dutch mastermind.

The Eredivisie team is aware, though, that Slot has been given the Reds a second chance after turning down advances from Tottenham and Leeds earlier in the season.

After an impressive season at FC Twente, who are presently sitting third in the Eredivisie league, Oosting is now under Feyenoord’s scrutiny. Although he is the apparent front-runner for the position, according to Dutch sources, he is not the only applicant for the possible opening.

The current Feyenoord U18 coach, Robin van Persie, is not believed to be vying for the De Kuip hot seat, should it become vacant.

Instead, the former striker for Manchester United and Arsenal is about to assume his first senior coaching position with Heerenveen. Although negotiations have not yet produced results, Feyenoord has held conversations with the former Netherlands forward about potentially taking over their U21 squad for the upcoming season.

Even though Van Persie wants to manage the team’s first team in the future, it is believed that the coaching beginner prefers the idea of honing his skills somewhere else before accepting a high-pressure position. As rumour grows, Slot’s agent Rafaela Pimenta is anticipated to meet soon to discuss her client’s future with Feyenoord.

According to reports, Liverpool and Slot have already met at least once to discuss the opening. If successful, Slot would be eager to bring Sipke Hulshoff, his present assistant manager, to Merseyside as part of a revamped coaching staff.

Prior to his present team’s match against Go Ahead Eagles on Thursday, the Feyenoord manager was scheduled to meet the media on Wednesday. However, club insiders assert that the decision was made prior to Liverpool’s interest being made public.

Ruben Amorim, the head coach of Sporting CP, has left the race after travelling to London on Monday to meet with West Ham. Amorim has drawn interest from other teams, but unless he does a dramatic U-turn, it is unlikely that he will accept either role for the upcoming season.
