Barcelona has reportedly set their sights on Feyenoord midfielder Mats Wieffer, who Liverpool is looking to sign during the summer transfer season.

Liverpool is hoping to pay over €40 million for Mats Wieffer, according to a report from Fichajes. Barcelona is also interested in the Feyenoord midfield player as the summer transfer window approaches.

The 24-year-old Dutchman has been an important member of Arne Slot’s team and has performed admirably for Feyenoord. Next season, the Dutch manager is anticipated to take over at Liverpool. It follows that the Reds’ consideration of his former players is not surprising.

There is no denying that Wieffer would be a fantastic addition to Liverpool’s defensive midfield, which is in dire need of reinforcements. He will assist in deflecting enemy attacks and protecting the back four. In recent months, Liverpool has been connected to several defensive midfield players. Last summer, they made an attempt to attract players like Romeo Lavia and Moises Caicedo.

Wataru Endo, a Japanese international, was ultimately signed by the Reds from Stuttgart, and he has performed admirably. But Liverpool needs to think ahead because Endo is in his forties. Bringing Wieffer into the picture, their top goal going into the summer transfer window should be to sign a top-tier defensive midfield player.

This summer, Liverpool needs a defensive midfielder.

Acquiring the Feyenoord player might turn out to be a prudent move. The Dutchman is settling in nicely under Slot, so he ought to have no trouble adjusting to Liverpool and starting to contribute right away. The midfield player has also been connected to Barcelona, the dominant team in Spain.

In addition to having the physical and technical qualities necessary to succeed in English football, he is familiar with Slot’s playing philosophy. The Dutch midfielder will find it hard to resist the chance to sign with one of the biggest teams in the world, but it’s unclear if the two sides can agree on a price.

For the midfield player, €40 million would be a considerable sum of money, and Feyenoord might be persuaded if Liverpool approached with a formal offer. The midfielder will be excited to advance to the Premier League, where he will seek to establish himself in England.

Although he has already proven his abilities in the Eredivisie, it is unclear if, should the transfer go through, he will be able to leave his mark at Liverpool. But with Barcelona always in the background, a transfer could be imminent.
