At Liverpool, Jose Mourinho may bring in four former players to reunite the group.

Jose Mourinho has been named as a possible left-field replacement for Jurgen Klopp, instead of Arne Slot.

If Jose Mourinho makes an unexpected move to Anfield next season, he might be enticed to reunite with some of his former players at Liverpool. Although Robbie Fowler is not totally persuaded that Arne Slot, the manager of Feyenoord, will be the right choice to succeed Jurgen Klopp, it is commonly assumed that the Reds will select him.

“I could understand why you would get someone like Mourinho,” Fowler stated, expressing his belief that his previous team would gain more from selecting an accomplished manager like Mourinho. Real Madrid, for instance, is a prime example.

“Instead of searching for a youthful, promising manager when Zinedine Zidane left for the second time in 2021, they chose Carlo Ancelotti, an experienced manager. Such expertise and experience may undoubtedly support a club going through a change.”

Express Sport examines four players that Mourinho would want to get back together with if Liverpool choose to follow Fowler’s advise.

Fikayo Tomori

When the bidding opens in June, Liverpool is expected to recruit at least one new central defender. Fikayo Tomori, a defender for AC Milan, might be a wise addition for the Reds, particularly if Mourinho comes in after rising through Chelsea’s youth under the Portuguese manager.

Tomori would provide Liverpool with some additional depth at the back, but he is unlikely to start above Virgil van Dijk and Ibrahima Konate. If he makes an impression in the Premier League, a move to Anfield might also put him in a stronger position to be included in future England selections.

Ndicka Evan

If Mourinho makes an unexpected transfer to Anfield, another possible addition for Liverpool might be defender Evan Ndicka of Roma. Despite being linked to the Merseyside giants on a free transfer last summer, he chose to join Roma and made frequent appearances for Mourinho’s team during the first half of the current campaign.

At 24, Ndicka still has a lot of opportunity to grow and might relieve some of Jarell Quansah’s workload by providing another strong backup for Liverpool. He recently passed out during a game against Udinese, but Roma has approved him to return to football after cardiac testing revealed no unfavourable results.

Nicolo Zaniolo

Over the years, Liverpool has been frequently connected to Nicolo Zaniolo, but they have never come close to signing him. He was loaned to Aston Villa from Galatasaray in the summer, although he hasn’t played much and is probably going to return to Turkey at the end of the year.

Zaniolo still has a lot of time to reach his full potential, and if Mourinho signs, Liverpool might be the ideal place for him to do it. Gazzetta dello Sport reports that Galatasaray is willing to sell him for just £17 million, making him a low-risk alternative for the Reds to consider as they want to replace Thiago Alcantara in the summer.

Abraham Tammy

Under Mourinho, Tammy Abraham flourished at Roma until suffering a major knee injury at the conclusion of the previous campaign. In Roma’s most recent league game, he scored his first goal of the season against Napoli, marking his comeback to play last month.

With players like Diogo Jota, Darwin Nunez, Cody Gakpo, and Luis Diaz fighting for playing time up top, Liverpool is not exactly lacking in attacking alternatives. Abraham might be a capable substitute if Mohamed Salah departs in the summer, as there are still questions about the Egyptian star’s long-term future.
