During the summer transfer window, Dean Huijsen has been linked to a move to Liverpool. When the Juventus defender joined Roma on loan, Jose Mourinho gave him high expectations.
This summer, Liverpool might be in the market for a new defender, and Jose Mourinho has backed their newest target for greatness.
According to TuttoJuve, Anfield is showing interest in Dean Huijsen ahead of the summer window. The youthful Dutch defender is one of Italian football’s greatest talents, and he may soon be eligible to transfer to the Premier League.
The 19-year-old, who joined their Serie A rivals in early January, spent the second half of the previous season on loan at Roma from Juventus. When the decision was made, Mourinho was in control, but their time together was short because he was fired less than two weeks later.
But Mourinho was very explicit about his level of confidence in Huijsen’s ability when the centre back was bought. His declaration that he is among the best possibilities in all of European football is encouraging for Liverpool, should the club decide to make a move.
“I think we all know who he is,” Mourinho said. “He’s an eighteen-year-old kid with 10 minutes in Serie A, but at this age, he’s one of the best prospects in European football.” “In the future, he will be a fantastic football player.”
Borussia Dortmund and Newcastle United are said to have shown interest in Huijsen as well. He wants to play more regular first-team football at the top level, and his agents are now in negotiations with Juventus about his future.
He represented Roma in 13 Serie A games last season. Despite having few first-team appearances at Juventus thus far, he last summer inked a new contract that would extend until 2027.
The 6ft5 defender played for his native Netherlands up till the Under-19 level. He has played for Spain Under-21s, but he is also a Spanish citizen because his family moved to Marbella when he was five years old.
“Thank you, wonderful Roma, for these 6 months full of emotions, I had the privilege of experiencing your passion for this team and these colours,” he wrote in a recent social media parting tribute to Roma.
Despite Jarell Quansah’s rise, Liverpool may try to strengthen its defence options under new manager Arne Slot in the summer after losing Joel Matip. Sepp van den Berg is one player who will have an opportunity to shine. He had a successful loan stint at Mainz and will now play under Slot throughout the preseason before a decision is made over whether to cash in on his services or not, as clubs all across Europe are interested in him.
According to Liverpool.com, Mourinho is still a decent talent assessor even though he’s not the boss he once was. Furthermore, based on his assessment of Huijsen’s potential, Liverpool could have a legitimate player on their hands if they want to pursue the kid.
