Fabrizio Romano acknowledges that Liverpool made a move in the transfer market that caught him off guard.

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has shared his thoughts on Liverpool’s recent summer transfer activity, noting that he expected them to make more signings than they ultimately did.

Romano, renowned for his reliable coverage of the transfer market, gave an exclusive interview to CaughtOffside for the Daily Briefing, where he discussed Liverpool’s summer acquisitions.

Liverpool secured two high-quality players: Federico Chiesa and Giorgi Mamardashvili. However, Mamardashvili will stay at Valencia for another season before joining Liverpool as their new goalkeeper.

Romano acknowledged that he anticipated Liverpool would bring in at least one more player. He believes that the window would have been exceptional had they signed Martin Zubimendi, who he considers a top addition for their midfield.

Last summer, Liverpool invested heavily in four new midfielders—Alexis Mac Allister, Ryan Gravenberch, Wataru Endo, and Dominik Szoboszlai. Despite this, Romano feels that another midfielder, like Zubimendi, could have been a valuable addition.

Romano commented, “I think Liverpool had a positive window overall, but I was expecting at least one more signing.”

He added, “With Zubimendi, if they had been able to get that deal done, it would have been a fantastic window. Chiesa is a smart and very good piece of business, while I also think Mamardashvili is a top, top goalkeeper for the future. My feeling is that with one more midfielder coming in, it would have gone down as an amazing window for the Reds.”

Liverpool have started the new season strongly, winning their first three Premier League matches, including a convincing 3-0 win against Manchester United last weekend. Consequently, fans are likely focused on their current success rather than the signings that didn’t happen.

Mo Salah discusses what he wants Liverpool supporters to remember of him when he exit the club Mo Salah, who has 213 goals in 351 games

Mo Salah, who has 213 goals in 351 games, is undoubtedly one of the greatest forwards in Premier League history. However, Salah hopes that he will always have a particular place in the hearts of Liverpool supporters.

The top player for Liverpool, Mo Salah, has stated that he aspires to be regarded as “one of the best players” who has ever played for the team, ranking on par with Steven Gerrard.

Since joining Anfield for £34 million from Roma in 2017, the Egyptian has been a revelation. He quickly established himself as the team’s star, scoring a tonne of goals to help the team win a number of titles, including the FA Cup in 2022, the Premier League in 2020, and the Champions League in 2019.

With 213 goals in 351 games, the 32-year-old winger has established himself as one of the greatest forwards in Premier League history. However, Salah hopes he will always have a particular place in the hearts of Liverpool supporters.

When asked how he wants to be remembered by supporters, Salah discussed his legacy at the club in an interview with the Men in Blazers podcast.

“I think I want them to always remember that I give everything to the club,” he replied. “I think that’s really significant. People merely serve as a reminder that you genuinely give the club your best.

“I also think that player is among the greatest to have ever played for Liverpool. They are free to choose which is the finest, but they must mention at least one of the best. It’s okay if they say one of the top two.

It’s alright between Stevie and me.” Despite Salah’s outstanding play at Liverpool, it will be difficult for Salah to surpass Gerrard in the hearts of Liverpool supporters given the great midfielder’s valiant performances at Anfield and his part in the team’s historic Champions League comeback in 2005.

Along with his 185 goals in 710 appearances with the Reds, Gerrard also won the FA Cup twice, the League Cup three times, and the UEFA Cup once.

After scoring goals in the team’s opening two games of the season against Brentford and Ipswich, Salah is off to a quick start this year.

Having won the top scorer award three times while at Liverpool in 2017–18, 2018–19, and 2021–22, he will be looking to rival players like Erling Haaland.

As Arne Slot leads his team to Old Trafford to take on Manchester United on Sunday, Salah and Liverpool are preparing for a pivotal matchup with their fierce rivals.
