Here is your latest Liverpool transfer update for Sunday, September 8. The Reds are again connected with Jonathan Tah, Adrien Rabiot’s wage expectations have come to light, and Arne Slot is eyeing a Real Madrid player.

Jonathan Tah Linked with Liverpool

Liverpool, having previously shown interest in young Brazilian Vitor Reis from Palmeiras, are now reported to be targeting a more seasoned defender.

According to Christian Falk for CaughtOffside, fans should “keep an eye” on Bayer Leverkusen’s Jonathan Tah. The 28-year-old centre-back was notably linked with Bayern Munich during the summer, but the transfer did not materialize as Bayern did not meet his asking price.

Tah had been previously linked with Liverpool during a defensive injury crisis last year. Falk comments on this potential connection, noting: “In the far-flung future, they will need a successor for Virgil van Dijk. Jonathan Tah could be that for Liverpool. They are also on the table at this time.”

Serie A Midfielder unveils Liverpool Interest

Morten Frendrup

Liverpool’s quest for a defensive midfielder, which ended in disappointment when Martin Zubimendi opted to stay with Real Sociedad, has now reportedly included Genoa’s Morten Frendrup.

Frendrup, on international duty with Denmark, addressed the speculation for the first time this week. The 23-year-old told Tipsbladet: “It is clear that it [Liverpool] is a huge club, but there is a long way from concrete interest.”

He added, “For me, it’s about doing it as well as possible. My agent has to take care of everything else.”

Frendrup expressed contentment with his life in Italy, having joined Genoa from Danish club Brondby in January 2021.

Rabiot’s Wage requests

Adrien Rabiot left Juventus at the end of his contract after making 35 appearances last season. He remains a free agent, largely due to his high wage demands.

The 29-year-old is seeking a €40 million package over three seasons, which would make him Liverpool’s second-highest paid player, surpassing Virgil van Dijk, Trent Alexander-Arnold, and Alisson Becker. Although Rabiot’s free transfer seemed promising given his European and international experience, his salary demands might hinder his chances of finding a European club, particularly as he seeks Champions League football.

Liverpool missed out on Brajan Gruda when the 20-year-old signed with Brighton earlier this summer. The German U21 player made a significant impact for Mainz last season, scoring and assisting in their 3-1 victory over Wolfsburg to secure their Bundesliga survival.

Christian Falk, writing for Fabrizio Romano’s daily briefing, confirmed that Liverpool had shown interest in Gruda but never made a “concrete” move. Falk also revealed that Liverpool was the only top Premier League club interested in Gruda, though there was substantial interest from other Premier League sides.

Liverpool Considers Real Madrid Star as Mo Salah Replacement

With Mohamed Salah’s contract expiring at the end of the season, Liverpool will need to find a high-caliber replacement if he departs. One of the ongoing links is Real Madrid’s Rodrygo Goes.

Real Madrid’s acquisition of Endrick and Kylian Mbappe could potentially push Rodrygo out of the first-team picture. Jude Bellingham’s early injury has delayed this issue for Carlo Ancelotti.

Rodrygo had expressed dissatisfaction with the situation in Madrid over the summer, and recent updates on his official WhatsApp channel indicated unhappiness with suggestions that Real’s new front line might include Bellingham, Mbappe, and Vinicius [BMV].
