Sadio Mane shares significant insights about Saudi football and names the former Liverpool teammate he stays in touch with

Former Liverpool striker Sadio Mane asserts that the Saudi Pro League has reached an “impressive” level, commenting on his enduring friendship with ex-Liverpool teammate Gini Wijnaldum.
Mane, now in his second season with Al-Nassr after a challenging year at Bayern Munich following his departure from Liverpool in 2022, noted the growing presence of former Anfield players in the league, including Wijnaldum, Roberto Firmino, and Fabinho. Steven Gerrard also manages Al-Ettifaq, where Jordan Henderson played before moving to Ajax.
With ongoing speculation about Mohamed Salah’s potential lucrative transfer to the league, which could see him available for free at the end of the season, Mane is optimistic about the league’s growth. He pointed out that Al-Hilal remains a dominant force, having gone unbeaten last season and currently leading without a loss.
Mane stated, “You can see it, the level is impressive now. I’d even say it’s been since last year, but especially this year, too, as every team has strengthened in level. I also think it’s good for the league and will give more competitiveness and, of course, it’s what football fans expect, so it’s beneficial for the championship.”
Reflecting on his relationship with Wijnaldum, who joined Gerrard at Al-Ettifaq, Mane shared: “Gini is one of my very good friends. And (with) Gini, it’s more than football, because our relationship came naturally. When I was in Liverpool, we came at the same time, and he is this kind of person that once he is in the team he becomes friends with everybody. Everybody likes him.”
Mane continued, “He is special, and this is the reason when I was there we’ve been good friends – and he was always in my house. Sometimes he would call me to come to my house, and I’m like ‘No, not yet. Get out of here!’. He always wants to make fun, and I like this about him. He has a good heart; I can speak about him until tomorrow non-stop. He is amazing and we’re still keeping contact. And that’s really important.”

According to report – Liverpool’s chances of signing £75m star in January improve, player desires move to Anfield
Liverpool’s struggle to secure a new center-back for two consecutive years is well-documented. While they have managed with the emergence of Jarell Quansah, this may pose future challenges.
Currently, Virgil van Dijk and Ibrahima Konate are the preferred center-back duo, with Quansah providing backup. Joe Gomez, a fan favorite, is rarely utilized these days.
Therefore, acquiring a new center-back is crucial for the Reds. Recent reports suggest that Liverpool is interested in signing Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi, who is also keen on a move to Anfield.
According to TBR Football, Liverpool’s pursuit of the 24-year-old has gained momentum, as Crystal Palace may consider selling him in January if he does not agree to a new contract before his current deal expires in 2026.
For a long time, England’s center-back situation revolved around John Stones and Harry Maguire, leaving the third spot open. With Maguire injured for the Euros, Guehi was selected and proved to be one of the best performers, at times outshining Stones. However, he has struggled to replicate that form with Palace this season, despite having the chance to captain the team.
It remains uncertain if Liverpool will make a formal offer for Guehi in January, but securing him would be a significant move for the club. Only time will reveal if the 24-year-old will play at Anfield in the future.
