Liverpool transfer updates: Martin Zubimendi reportedly ‘chooses to leave’ while ‘contact made’ for Ajax talent
Share
Liverpool Transfer News: Martin Zubimendi reportedly wants to leave Real Sociedad, while the Reds are said to have made initial contact for Ajax’s young defender Devyne Rensch.
As the January transfer window approaches, Liverpool’s priorities may shift towards securing their current key players rather than adding new faces. The window opens in just over a month, but on Merseyside, this may not be a welcomed prospect. Virgil van Dijk, Trent Alexander-Arnold, and Mohamed Salah all have contracts nearing their end, with concerns rising over Salah’s potential departure following his recent comments. Soon, all three will be able to negotiate pre-contract agreements with foreign clubs.
Despite Liverpool’s strong performances in both the Premier League and Champions League, January could provide an opportunity for Arne Slot to bolster his squad in pursuit of silverware. Once again, a familiar name is being linked with a move to Anfield.
Here’s the latest Liverpool.com verdict on the transfer rumors surrounding the club, including a possible exit for Martin Zubimendi.
Martin Zubimendi (Real Sociedad)
Liverpool is reportedly confident it can outbid Arsenal for Martin Zubimendi, after Spanish sources revealed that the midfielder has decided to leave Real Sociedad, according to TEAMtalk.
Spanish outlet TDF claims that Zubimendi intends to leave his boyhood club in January, despite having turned down a move to Anfield in the summer to remain with Sociedad. It’s believed the 25-year-old now regrets his decision and feels the time has come to depart.
TEAMtalk reports that Liverpool is set to reignite its interest in the Spain international, with the Reds now seen as the frontrunners for his signature, despite Arsenal’s own interest.
Liverpool.com comments: If the opportunity arises, Liverpool should certainly consider revisiting Zubimendi, provided he hasn’t damaged his relationship with Richard Hughes. While Ryan Gravenberch has performed well in the No.6 role this season, adding another top-quality option could be crucial in the title race. However, considering Zubimendi’s previous commitment to staying at Sociedad, it’s wise not to get too excited just yet.
Devyne Rensch (Ajax)
Liverpool has reportedly made initial contact with Ajax over a potential move for young defender Devyne Rensch, according to Sport. The 21-year-old right-back is under contract in Amsterdam until the end of the season, and while he’s been offered a new deal, he has yet to commit his future to the club.
Tottenham and Barcelona are also said to be interested in the player, but with Trent Alexander-Arnold’s future uncertain, Liverpool may increase its efforts to find a potential replacement.
Liverpool.com notes: Rensch has already earned two senior appearances for the Netherlands, highlighting his high potential. With Liverpool needing to consider future options for Alexander-Arnold, it’s likely we’ll hear more about Rensch in the coming months.
