The Hungarian midfielder believes there

The Hungarian midfielder believes there is a strong sense of confidence within the Liverpool squad as they lead the Premier League at Christmas.

To say that Liverpool have enjoyed a strong start under Arne Slot would be an understatement. Following an exciting 6-3 victory over Tottenham, the Reds are four points clear at the top of the Premier League with a game in hand. They also lead their Champions League group and have advanced to the semifinals of the EFL League Cup. Remarkably, Liverpool have lost only once across all competitions this season (looking at you, tricky trees).

After Sunday’s win over Spurs, Hungarian midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai spoke with the media about the team’s impressive start and the belief that new manager Arne Slot has instilled in his players—a belief that has been wholeheartedly reciprocated by the squad.

“Probably actually no-one expected him, us to start so well – but he is believing in the team, we are believing in him. We need the whole squad, that has showed many times. It doesn’t matter who plays, we give our best on the pitch: Champions League, cups and in the Premier League as well. That’s why we are top of the table and top of the Champions League.”

Liverpool fans who have been around long enough will remember that being top of the table at Christmas doesn’t necessarily guarantee that position will be maintained by season’s end. While caution is always warranted, this team certainly looks poised to challenge for titles. Despite injuries to key players, the squad has shown resilience, with various players stepping up and delivering solid performances to keep collecting points, while other teams have stumbled. For Szoboszlai, he prefers to keep the focus on the team and their own progress rather than the table.

“I think everybody is dreaming of this situation, but we see many times teams who are in front of other teams, and there is still six months to go. We are looking at the table a little bit but also we are just taking care of ourselves, securing our points. Still one more game [in hand] to go in front of the other teams, we want to be as much in front as we could [be].”

So, for now at least, fans can enjoy the moment of topping the table at Christmas. Who knows—perhaps a few contract extensions will be the perfect holiday surprise.
