Liverpool transfer update: Liam Delap ‘targeted’ as pursuit of Omar Marmoush hits setback

Liverpool transfer updates suggest the Reds are among several clubs interested in signing Liam Delap, but their pursuit of Omar Marmoush may have suffered a setback.
With less than 24 hours remaining until the January transfer window opens, questions arise as to whether Liverpool will engage in any transfer activity in the New Year.
Heading into 2025, the Reds hold an eight-point lead at the top of the Premier League and remain strong contenders in both the Champions League and Carabao Cup. Things are going exceptionally well for manager Arne Slot on the field.
However, off the pitch, Liverpool faces some key challenges, including uncertainty surrounding the futures of Virgil van Dijk, Trent Alexander-Arnold, and Mohamed Salah. The club must also determine whether to make moves in the January market to strengthen their title ambitions.
Omar Marmoush (Eintracht Frankfurt)
Arsenal has reportedly reached out to Eintracht Frankfurt regarding Omar Marmoush’s availability, potentially giving them an edge over Liverpool, as reported by Caught Offside.
Marmoush has reportedly not responded favorably to recent contract talks with Frankfurt, who remain keen on renewing his deal despite ongoing transfer speculation. This has alerted various clubs, including Arsenal, while Liverpool and Chelsea are said to be “lurking in the background.” Aston Villa and Newcastle are also mentioned as potential suitors.
Liverpool.com suggests: It’s almost certain that Marmoush will secure a major move soon, but the question is where. Given his performances this season and his ability to play as a center-forward, Liverpool should certainly be considering him—especially with their rivals showing interest. The opportunity to team up with his international teammate, Mohamed Salah, might also be an attractive prospect.
Liam Delap (Ipswich)
Liverpool is reportedly one of several clubs targeting Ipswich Town striker Liam Delap, according to the Daily Mail.
Alongside Liverpool, Chelsea, Manchester United, and Manchester City are also interested, with Manchester City holding a buy-back clause after selling him last summer.
Delap has been impressive despite Ipswich’s struggles this season, netting seven league goals. He made a notable impact in his side’s 2-0 win over Chelsea, scoring from the penalty spot and providing an assist for Omari Hutchinson’s goal.
Liverpool.com says: Delap’s performance against Chelsea is sure to have earned him some admirers at Liverpool. However, pursuing a striker with limited Premier League experience and still a work in progress would represent a significant leap of faith.
