Liverpool receive important Khvicha Kvaratskhelia transfer update as £176m offer is ‘confirmed’

Recent reports suggest that Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) has made a significant move to sign Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, a player who has also been linked with a transfer to Liverpool. The Georgian winger, currently with Serie A club Napoli, could potentially leave this month in one of the biggest deals of the January transfer window.
According to Liverpool ECHO, there has been no formal communication between Liverpool and Napoli regarding Kvaratskhelia’s transfer so far this month. However, the winger has been on Liverpool’s radar ever since he emerged as one of Serie A’s top talents, with the club being long-term admirers of his abilities.
Chelsea is also reported to be interested in the player, but PSG appears to be the primary competitor for Liverpool. It’s claimed that PSG tried to sign Kvaratskhelia over the summer, but their attempts were unsuccessful.
“Paris Saint-Germain started a concrete attack for Kvaratskhelia. That was an exclusive update but it doesn’t mean that a deal is done. It means that Paris Saint-Germain are in negotiations with Napoli,” said Fabrizio Romano in a recent YouTube update.
Romano added that PSG and Napoli are in direct negotiations, with the player’s representatives also involved in talks. It’s reported that PSG is willing to offer up to five times Kvaratskhelia’s current €2m (£1.6m) annual salary. Romano further explained that PSG had been interested in Kvaratskhelia as early as May 2024.
“Before the start of the summer transfer window, Paris Saint-Germain presented a proposal to Napoli sent by the agent of Victor Osimhen, who was in an excellent relationship with Paris Saint-Germain. A proposal worth €210m (£176.1m) – €200m guaranteed, €10m in add-ons – for both Kvaratskhelia and Osimhen. So, Paris Saint-Germain wanted to sign even before the beginning of the market in May 2024,” Romano noted.
However, Napoli rejected the offer, insisting Kvaratskhelia was not for sale, and the focus shifted to Osimhen’s situation, which resulted in him joining Galatasaray on loan. Now, with over six months passed, Kvaratskhelia’s contract with Napoli is nearing its final years, and PSG has returned to the negotiating table with new conditions.
Reports indicate that Napoli is asking for €80m (£67m) to release Kvaratskhelia, whose contract runs until 2027. In a potential deal, while Liverpool was rumored to be including Federico Chiesa as part of their negotiations, PSG has reportedly tried to use Milan Skriniar in their talks. However, Napoli is reportedly not keen on the permanent acquisition of Skriniar due to salary concerns, and discussions are expected to continue into January.
