Manchester United are also interested in Fiorentina midfielder Sofyan Amrabat; Liverpool have lost Moises Caicedo and Romeo Lavia to Chelsea this week, prompting Jamie Carragher to describe the Reds’ transfer business as ’embarrassing’; Amrabat has another year of contract with La Viola
Liverpool have held talks with Fiorentina through intermediaries over the possible signing of Sofyan Amrabat, Italy’s Sky reports.
Sky Sports News has been reporting throughout the summer that Manchester United are interested in the Moroccan international, with the midfielder working under Erik ten Hag at FC Utrecht.
However, further “major extra income” for Manchester United in this period looks increasingly difficult.
Liverpool were keen to improve their midfield this summer transfer window, having let go of Jordan Henderson, Fabinho, Naby Keita, James Milner, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Arthur Melo, signing only Dominik Szoboszlai and Alexis Mac Allister.
Jurgen Klopp’s side missed Moises Caicedo and Romeo Lavia at Chelsea this summer. Former Brighton midfielder Caicedo completed a £115million move to Stamford Bridge earlier this week and Lavia is undergoing medical treatment ahead of a £58million move.
Both players preferred Chelsea to Liverpool, who also signed deals for the two midfielders, forcing the Reds to move on to other goals.
Sofyan Amrabat: Liverpool contact Fiorentina over signing of midfielder, report Sky in Italy
“This is the player Manchester United have been interested in all summer.
“Our colleague in Italy, Gianluca Di Marzio, reported that Amrabat changed agents today and if a player changes agents it usually means only one thing and that is because he wants to arrange a transfer. “Amrabat has another year on his contract with an option for another 12 months.
“United still maintain their interest. We’ve talked about their spending being done now simply because there are no major departures in the form of Harry Maguire and Scott McTominay. They can’t bring in any money to do other financial deals.
“Manchester United entered the market with three main targets: Andre Onana, Mason Mount and Rasmus Hojlund. They want to get back into the market, but it could prove difficult.
“But now it’s Liverpool who have started to show interest. It’s nothing new, Liverpool have a long-term interest in Amrabat, we’ve all seen how impressive he was for Morocco in the Cup.
of the world.”
“It will be interesting to see where this leads.”
Sky Sports’ Jamie Carragher described Liverpool’s summer as “an absolute mess, a joke and embarrassing” after missing out on Caicedo and Lavia.
Asked what the double transfer move means with three weeks remaining at Liverpool, Carragher said: “In a fairly difficult situation, people know they are desperate.” “They made a bid for Lavia today for £60m, when four or five days ago they refused to pay £50m. It’s an absolute mess and a joke.”
“The main problem is that Liverpool have known they need reinforcements in midfield since August last season, 12 months ago. So not having things in order…
“The two players they bought had buyout clauses, there’s no negotiation, there’s nothing to worry about, you just have to respect the buyout clause. So Liverpool didn’t sign big deals and it was embarrassing. “That’s why I won’t criticize the owners – they were ready to pay £111m and break the transfer record. Start with Lavia, not pay a certain amount, then go to Caicedo and go again.” Lavia, it’s a real mess, a joke and it’s embarrassing.”

Carlos Baleba is a target for Liverpool, according to rumors.
If you can’t get Moises Caicedo then maybe get the man Brighton want to sign to replace Moises Caicedo.
Having just sold Moises Caicedo to Chelsea in a £115m deal that still has Liverpool fans gritting their teeth, Brighton have chosen 19-year-old Lille’s Carlos Baleba as the man to replace their late defensive midfielder .
For some Liverpool fans, this begs a seemingly simple question: if Liverpool can’t have Caicedo, why don’t they just go and sign Baleba, aka Brighton’s supposed replacement for him, instead. Now, it seems the rumor mills agree.
At least according to The Mail and a smattering of even less popular outlets today, that’s precisely what Liverpool are at least considering, although it’s worth pointing out upfront that Baleba is a 19-year-old with 22 total senior caps. If fans rightly thought Southampton’s Roméo Lavia was unwilling to be a week-to-week regular for a club with silver lining ambitions, well, Baleba is far behind Lavia in his growth.
However, if Liverpool were to sign a more experienced player for the starting role, there could be a case for spending £15m to sign the young up-and-comer, although this would only make sense if Stefan Bajcetic is seen as more than an eight.
Baleba is not ready for a starting role at Liverpool at the moment. It’s far from certain that he’s ready for that in Brighton as well. However, it’s easy to imagine a world in which he will be a regular starter for a top English club in two or three years’ time.
