After Liverpool's failure to reclaim the Premier League summit at Manchester United, manager Jurgen Klopp feels that the only people

After Liverpool’s match against Manchester United ended in a 2-2 Premier League draw, Jurgen Klopp reacts.

After Liverpool’s failure to reclaim the Premier League summit at Manchester United, manager Jurgen Klopp feels that the only people at fault are themselves.

Even though they dominated for the majority of the match, the Reds needed a late penalty from Mohamed Salah to clinch a 2-2 draw at Old Trafford on Sunday.

After a startlingly one-sided first half, Bruno Fernandes and Kobbie Mainoo gave United the lead through goals after the break. Luis Diaz gave the visitors the lead.

Liverpool, who lost their FA Cup quarterfinal match against United three weeks ago, 4-3, are now trailing leaders Arsenal on goal differential, with champions Manchester City one point behind.

“You can say that we should win the game if we have that much dominance,” Klopp responded. However, you have all played football long enough to know that winning doesn’t guarantee you a victory, only that you should.

“2-2, I’m not thrilled about it; it’s not the best outcome I’ve ever seen, but it’s okay, I’m fine.”

On the penultimate weekend of the season, Arsenal plays United, and Klopp says he will probably be supporting his fierce rivals from the North West.

“It would be fantastic (if United won) if we are still here,” he remarked. “But Arsenal is a strong football team, and I’m positive that Arsenal will win that game if United plays like they did today. I apologise deeply, but we didn’t deserve to win both of our games versus United. We are to blame for that.

When questioned about his thoughts on Sunday’s match, Klopp responded, “There are definitely conflicting feelings.” Many aspects of the game pleased me; for example, winning 1-0 at Old Trafford and having a 15-0 shot advantage (at halftime) is amazing.

“There was outstanding goalkeeping, as demonstrated by Dom Szoboszlai’s outstanding save in one particular scenario. Aside from that, there were times when we need to have been more composed and lucid. But it’s okay, you lead 1-0.

“We came back (for the second half) and continued to control the game, but we lost the ball (for United’s first goal).” It’s not an issue because these errors have occurred in the past and will continue to occur beyond today. They had to utilise it similarly to Bruno, which was a really great ending.

“The atmosphere lifts in the stadium and they score the second,” Klopp continued. Then the game was back in our hands. We could have scored both before and after the penalty that we earned and the equaliser that we scored.

We had a 5-10  minute stretch where they scored, and we didn’t push up well for the second goal. This allowed Mainoo to find himself between the lines, setting up an amazing finish. But after that, we regained control.
