Liverpool
Alan Brazil is shocked by this week’s news regarding a Liverpool player.

The money Al Ittihad is reportedly willing to spend to lure Mohamed Salah out of Liverpool has been labeled “ludicrous”.
After Liverpool rejected an initial offer, it appears the Saudi Pro League side will make a new, higher offer. It appears that the proposal will cost well over £200m
The Salah saga made headlines throughout the football world.
And when we covered it live this morning on the TalkSPORT breakfast show, pundits Ally McCoist and Alan Brazil were in complete disbelief at the numbers cited.
“The thing is, I think Jürgen Klopp said he’s not going anywhere, otherwise we don’t want to sell,” McCoist began.
“Reading this, it appears that At-Ittihad is ready to launch a £215m operation.
It’s just ridiculous,” Brazil replied.
“That’s it, that’s the right word.
It’s true,” McCoist acknowledged.
We’re all with you, they can add another £100m!
Salah’s ‘ridiculous’ saga continues
Frankly, spending over £200m on Salah isn’t the ‘ridiculous’ part of this story given the current market.
Judging by the fees spent elsewhere, Mo is probably worth it right now.
The 31-year-old is still in top form and has already bagged two goals and two assists in four games this season.
With over 30 goals in each of his last three seasons, he is one of the most consistent goalscorers in the world.
However, the way Al Ittihad proceeds is somewhat absurd.
After hesitating all summer trying to sign Salah, they are on the right track just days from their transfer window.
The first bid for the Egyptian was made at the European market deadline.
Regardless of size, Liverpool would always refuse this.
Now come back with another one and it will probably be again.
Actually, the £215m, or whatever, is ridiculous, yes.
But from a footballing and relatively speaking perspective, that still might not be fair given what Mo is worth to Liverpool at the moment.
Let’s see if anything changes today.

I’m worry about what Man City did and they shouldn’t have been allowed, but Liverpool won’t be surprised
John Aldridge discusses the Premier League title race and the Europa League draw in part two of his weekly Liverpool column.
This weekend’s Premier League results couldn’t have been very favorable to Liverpool.
Manchester United suffered defeat at Arsenal and lost to Chelsea and Newcastle.
It gave us the opportunity to capitalize on what can be crucial at this stage of the season and we did it in style at Anfield.
One team that did not lose, however, is Manchester City. Pep Guardiola’s side are the only team in the division to have won all four games and that’s a concern no matter who they face.
City set the trend again, Erling Haaland scored another hat-trick and one wonders what it will take before Guardiola’s team lose their way.
Whoever manages to finish above Manchester City this season will have to be exceptional.
It takes something special to knock them out of first place.
While I’m sure City fans appreciate their team’s success, the powers that be in English football have allowed this dominance to happen and ruin the best league in the world.
John Adridge
If a team won the league back-to-back ten years ago, it was considered a remarkable achievement.
City spins for the fourth time. What they have done from a purely footballing point of view is admirable, with brilliant players and a good coach, but they shouldn’t have done this.
Now it’s too late to do anything, that ship has left and that means it will be very difficult to capture them.
It’s likely they’ll fall out of place once Pep leaves, but it’s hard to imagine that happening right now.
Liverpool have to look after themselves for now.
Ten points out of a possible twelve is a respectable return.
We now have Gravenberch to throw into the mix and it can only help our aim of challenging City this season.
Europa League draw positive in more ways than one
We discovered our opponents for the Europa League group stage at the end of last week and I was pleasantly surprised to see how it went. With all due respect to the teams we face, Liverpool should finish top of their group.
The draw is favorable in the sense that you are looking for opportunities for players like Bajcetic, Jones, Elliott, Doak and Quansah.
For them, it will be an invaluable experience.
Another bonus is that each of our opponents is only a few hours away and Jurgen will be delighted. There are kick-off times at 5:45 p.m. which will also make it easier to recover before Premier League games. It couldn’t have gone better for us.
