Andy Robertson and Darwin Nunez are among the Liverpool players with injury news and anticipated comeback dates.
Before they play Brighton in their Premier League comeback on Sunday afternoon, Liverpool has nine players in the treatment room, with manager Jurgen Klopp worrying about a couple.
Liverpool takes on Brighton in the Premier League on Sunday as they make their post-international return to action.
For the pivotal match, which takes place hours before their title rivals Manchester City and Arsenal square off, Jurgen Klopp will be without a few key players. This weekend won’t be any different for the Reds from their season-long injury woes, as Klopp will have additional headaches due to the international break.
With ten games left, Liverpool is tied for first place in the Premier League with Arsenal based on goal differential. The 2 p.m. match on Sunday against Brighton is a fantastic chance to exert pressure on City and Arsenal before their 4.30 p.m. encounter at the Etihad Stadium.
Later this week, Klopp will speak with the media to provide updates on his injured team. Mirror Football, however, provides you with an overview of the players we know are questionable for the game in the interim.
Andy Robertson
Robertson’s forced departure from the Scotland match on Tuesday night due to injury presented Liverpool with yet another injury issue. He appeared upset as he hobbled off after a hard challenge in the first half of their loss to Northern Ireland due to an ankle issue. “After the game, he’ll return to his club and they’ll evaluate him,” Scotland boss Steve Clarke stated. “Hopefully, it won’t be too bad.” He probably won’t be free this weekend.
Joel Matip
Matip’s December ACL injury will prevent him from playing for Liverpool again this season. If the club doesn’t offer the seasoned defender a new deal, Klopp has urged them to do so, but in the meanwhile, he has already played his last match for Liverpool.
Alisson
Due to a muscular ailment, Liverpool’s starting custodian has been out of action since the beginning of February. Since Alisson isn’t anticipated to return until mid-April, Caoimhin Kelleher, who has shown himself to be a capable backup between the posts, will need to play against Brighton.
Stefan Bajcetic
Due to a calf issue, the 19-year-old midfielder has only appeared in two games this season and hasn’t played at all since September. Klopp provided an encouraging report earlier this month, saying, “He is in a much better place now.” We will have to wait a little while because he had a lengthy [outage]. However, he is still in the preseason, and following the international break, I believe he will participate in team training.
Trent Alexander-Arnold
Since mid-February, the right-back for Liverpool has been sidelined due to a knee ligament injury. Even if he is feeling better, Klopp stated that he has “a chance” of playing the week following the international break, therefore he is unlikely to play against Brighton.
Diogo Jota
When Jota sustained his knee injury against Brentford in February, Klopp issued a dire diagnosis, stating that he would be sidelined for “months.” The Portuguese striker will undoubtedly miss the match against Brighton, but Klopp offered him the same opportunity as Alexander-Arnold to play again the following week, so he might be back for the April 7 match against Manchester United.
Curtis Jones
Better news for Jones, who might be added back to the team for the match against Brighton. After taking a hit to his ankle during the Brentford game last month, he is making progress towards recovery thanks to the international break.
Darwin Nunez
Nunez pulled out of the Uruguay squad for the international break due to a hamstring injury he sustained in the FA Cup loss to United. Although Klopp stated that it was “hopefully not bad,” nothing else has been disclosed. He might play against Brighton, but Liverpool won’t take any chances.
Thiago Alcantara
Due to a thigh ailment, the Spanish midfielder is unlikely to play again this season. The previous month, Klopp stated, “There’s no timescale.” To tell the truth, I have no idea. He has a few medical concerns to take care of right now, and I’m not sure if that will allow him to return to the pitch this season.
