Arne Slot has delivered his first comments as Liverpool’s manager, giving fans with a lot to grasp.

He has answered a lot of lingering questions regarding his plans, including confirming some of his backroom staff and stating his overall goals for the next season. The Dutchman also discussed his playing style and preseason objectives.

Trent Alexander-Arnold reflected on these issues in April, a month before Slot was named Jurgen Klopp’s successor. The England star, who is currently abroad with his country for Euro 2024, admitted to being curious about working under a new manager after just playing under Klopp at the club level.

Alexander-Arnold told The Overlap: “I’d probably say I’m unsure of my sentiments about a new management coming in. It will be a completely different circumstance, and it will be strange to return to pre-season with a new playing style to adjust to.

“Whereas today, without anything being mentioned to me, I know how the manager wants me to play, and when I arrive at pre-season, I know to jump there and press there, but this summer, my next pre-season will have a completely different message.

‘It will be weird, but I believe I like the concept of a new challenge for the team, players, and organisation.”

Slot was brought in because he shared Klopp’s tactical philosophy, having previously played a high-tempo style at Feyenoord, where he won the Dutch league and subsequently the domestic cup over the previous two seasons.

He arrives during a tough summer in which players will return to work at separate times due to the Euro 2024 and Copa America being held during overlapping dates. Slot mentioned this when discussing his plans for preseason and the regular season, while also responding to Alexander-Arnold’s questions about his playing style ideas.

In a wide-ranging interview with club media on Wednesday, he stated: “Pre-season is all about getting players healthy and getting your game philosophy, your game model, into the players.

“We have a lot of training time with a handful of them, and how far players advance in the tournaments determines how much time we have to work with them.

“But, as you indicated, the playing style will not be entirely different. But it would be unusual if we did precisely the same things, since, while I am Jurgen Klopp’s replacement, I am not exactly like him.

Slot’s reign at Liverpool could begin with Inacio transfer.

The Dutchman appears to be confident in obtaining solid results from the start of next season, and one of his primary requirements is to strengthen the defensive.

The Reds wants Goncalo Inacio.

According to CaughtOffside sources familiar with Slot’s plans, Sporting’s excellent centre-back Goncalo Inacio, whom Liverpool has been pursuing since last November, is the club’s primary goal.

In January, the Portuguese defender decided to stay with Sporting until the conclusion of the season for personal reasons.

However, he is now ready to make the big move to the Premier League, with Liverpool seeking to finalise his transfer in the coming weeks.

Keeping with the Reds defence, Virgil van Dijk’s position must be observed.

His contract will expire in June 2025, and conversations over his renewal have stalled. As a result, the Saudi Pro League continues to view him as a top priority.

In midfield, Liverpool is pursuing Feyenoord’s Quinten Timber, a player Slot also values; however, there is fierce competition for his services, with several Italian and German clubs interested.

The Anfield club has requested information on the potential costs of the operation for Monaco’s Youssouf Fofana, but Newcastle, AC Milan, and Manchester United are also in the running, so Liverpool are unlikely to have it all their own.
