Arsenal vs. Liverpool: Expected starting lineup, official team news, and most recent injuries for the FA Cup match

Liverpool team news

Dominik Szoboszlai won’t be with Liverpool when they travel to Arsenal on Sunday for the FA Cup.

The Hungarian midfielder suffered a hamstring injury during the team’s most recent victory over Newcastle. As a result, manager Jurgen Klopp has ruled him out of Liverpool’s Carabao Cup semi-final match against Fulham on Wednesday night and this weekend’s heavyweight third-round match.

“I can attest that it is an injury and not a possible one. Hamstring muscle. At his pre-Arsenal press conference, Klopp told reporters, “But now we have to see.”

“We will have to wait a little while, but Dom is really upbeat and doesn’t have much pain. Therefore, there is obviously no hope for Sunday or Wednesday. No.

“After that, we’ll see; hopefully, he might return, but we’re not sure.”

The Reds kick off at the Emirates Stadium without Mohamed Salah and Wataru Endo, who are now away at the Africa Cup of Nations and Asian Cup, respectively, for almost a month.

As they attempt to complete their injury comebacks, Alexis Mac Allister and Diogo Jota might be selected to start against Arsenal, while Harvey Elliott might be the man to take Salah’s spot on the right wing.

In the early stages of the FA Cup, Klopp is often expected to rotate his team, but he has made references to fielding a strong team for a high-profile match against Premier League title rivals.

“I’m not sure if we should rotate against Arsenal right now,” he remarked. “As I sit here, I honestly don’t know if we have the chance to do so, whatever that implies.

It’s not like we have the most talented team on hand. We can put together a strong team with the talents we have available, and I believe we will do just that.

We have six days in between games, so I’m not sure if that looks like a rotation afterwards. Rotation is not necessary because that is so long. Say something like, “We have another game three days later.” That’s correct, but after the other game is finished, we may discuss that one.

That is our typical behaviour, and both are equally important. Nothing exists in the meantime. We want to win these games, advance to the championship game, and move on to the next round, but this draw is probably as difficult as it gets.

“It’s going to be difficult, but we played well here, so hopefully we can do well there as well.”

Predicted Liverpool XI (4-3-3): Alisson; Alexander-Arnold, Konate, Van Dijk, Gomez; Jones, Mac Allister, Gravenberch; Elliott, Gakpo, Diaz

Injured: Thiago, Bajcetic, Robertson, Tsimikas, Doak, Matip, Szoboszlai

Unavailable: Salah, Endo

Arsenal vs. Liverpool: Expected starting lineup, official team news, and most recent injuries for the FA Cup match

In an attempt to prevent a devastating early cup elimination, Mikel Arteta will choose a solid squad for the Gunners.

A late fitness test is required of Oleksandr Zinchenko before Arsenal’s FA Cup match against Liverpool.

The left-back was scheduled to get a scan on Monday after missing last Sunday’s loss to Fulham because of a calf issue.

Zinchenko is making good progress, according to Arteta, but after training on Saturday, a decision about his health will be taken in advance of Arsenal’s FA Cup third-round match against Liverpool the following day.

“He’s making good progress,” Arteta reported. “Tomorrow, we have another training session. We’ll assess whether he’s prepared to begin the game and available to play. There’s no news about the others.”

Arsenal needs to win this weekend at Emirates Stadium to go back on track after suffering back-to-back losses.

The Gunners don’t play again until January 20 if the game isn’t a draw and there isn’t a replay. Arteta is anticipated to choose a formidable squad on Sunday.

Aaron Ramsdale might make a rare start in lieu of David Raya on Sunday, however the Spaniard would not say who will start in goal.

Arsenal predicted XI (4-3-3): Ramsdale; White, Saliba, Gabriel, Zinchenko; Odegaard, Rice, Havertz; Saka, Jesus, Martinelli

Injured: Partey (thigh), Timber (knee), Vieira (groin)

Doubts: Zinchenko (calf)

Unavailable: Elneny (AFCON), Tomiyasu (Asian Cup)

Arsenal squad from: Ramsdale, Hein; Gabriel, Cedric, Kiwior, Saliba, White, Raya Zinchenko; Havertz, Jorginho, Odegaard, Smith Rowe; Jesus, Martinelli, Nelson, Rice, Nketiah, Saka and Trossard

Time and date: 4.30pm GMT on Sunday, January 7, 2024
