Rúben Amorim reportedly wants to bring a 36-goal striker to Anfield, according to transfer rumours involving Liverpool. For a low cost, the Reds could be able to get a new defender.

Liverpool needs to recover swiftly from a terrible week if it wants to keep its chances of sending Jürgen Klopp off with a bang.

The Reds’ chances of qualifying for the Premier League and the Europa League have drastically decreased in recent days. Their chances of winning two more titles this season are in jeopardy after losses to Atalanta and Crystal Palace.

If they want to overcome the 3-0 disadvantage they have against Atalanta on Thursday, they have a mountain to climb. Liverpool’s best chance of winning more trophies may therefore be in the Premier League, but even then, mistakes from Manchester City and Arsenal are now required.

With the season ending in just over a month, thoughts will undoubtedly turn to life after Klopp. Although Rúben Amorim, the manager of Sporting CP, is the obvious favourite, a replacement has not yet been found.

That implies that a few of his Lisbon-based players are also being rumoured to be joining Anfield this summer. This is Liverpool.com’s assessment of the transfer rumours that have surfaced regarding the Reds today, which include a possible addition to the striker and defence.

Viktor Gyökeres (Sporting CP)

If Rúben Amorim takes over as manager of Liverpool, HITC reports that he intends to bring Viktor Gyökeres to Anfield. The Reds have unavoidably been linked to several of Jürgen Klopp’s players, as the 39-year-old is the front-runner to take over as manager in the summer.

The most recent is Gyökeres, a Swedish international who apparently has a $107 million (£86 million/€101 million) release clause. The 25-year-old, who moved to Portugal from Coventry City last summer, has scored 36 goals in 43 games in all competitions for Sporting CP.

According Liverpool.com; Gyökeres has undoubtedly made an impact in Portugal this season, and  predicts that he will be linked to a transfer this summer. Although it seems a bit pricey, his release clause makes sense, and it’s hard to see Liverpool spending that much on one player at a time when the team is still going through some changes.

In any case, the Reds shouldn’t give up on Darwin Núñez just yet, despite the fact that his finishing can occasionally be a cause of frustration. Over the next months, there will undoubtedly be more connections with Sporting stars; speaking of which,

Gonçalo Inacio (Sporting CP)

Football Insider reports that Gonçalo Inácio will be available for a summer transfer to Liverpool for about $50 million (£40 million/€47 million). The website also implies that Sporting has already come to terms with the fact that they will likely lose the 22-year-old soon.

Inácio is rumoured to be available for a comparatively lower price, despite a caution that Portuguese clubs include large buyout provisions in players’ contracts. That’s allegedly because he plays on the left side of central defence, a position that doesn’t have many well-known players. He is a Portuguese international.

According to Liverpool.com; We’re not clear how those factors would lower a player’s price, you would think they would raise it, if anything.

Should Inácio be offered at that price, the temptation would be strong. A youthful, left-footed central defender would be an excellent addition to Liverpool’s defence, which might use some reinforcement.
