Benjamin Šeško

Prior to the summer transfer window, Benjamin Šeško had a release clause set in the wake of his past Liverpool connections. Bruno Guimarães may also be moving.

Liverpool held a number of farewell events at Anfield yesterday. Naturally, Jürgen Klopp received the most emotional sendoff, but many other significant personalities from this successful period also said goodbye.

This included Pep Lijnders, Klopp’s longtime assistant who was actually already at Liverpool when the German arrived. Red Bull Salzburg, the team that developed Benjamin Šeško, who subsequently secured a transfer to RB Leipzig, will see him take over.

The release clause that will apply to Šeško during the upcoming transfer window has finally been agreed upon by the Bundesliga team. Teams in the Premier League will be paying attention, since Liverpool has been associated with him since his time in Austria.

Meanwhile, it’s beginning to become more apparent who might leave Liverpool’s opponents. Given the interest from some of the biggest teams in the Premier League, it is more probable than not that Bruno Guimarães will be leaving Newcastle United.

The prospective exits of Guimarães and Šeško could attract Anfield’s attention. Here, Liverpool.com looks at what’s happening at Liverpool’s competitors by scanning the Premier League and the continent.

RB Leipzig accepts the release clause for Benjamin Šeško.

The talent pipeline inside the Red Bull network is well-known. Liverpool has in fact profited more than most, having signed players directly from teams supported by the massive energy drink company, including Takumi Minamino, Dominik Szoboszlai, Naby Keïta, and Ibrahima Konaté. Šeško and Liverpool have also been associated in the past.

Nevertheless, given that Arsenal has declared the striker a major target, it is believed that Arsenal is in the lead for the player (football.london).

Furthermore, a lengthy process to agree on a summer release clause has reportedly been finished, according to Sky Germany. Šeško signed a contract extension with RB Leipzig that runs until 2028, but he can leave if a bid of $71 million (£56 million/€65 million) is made.

The release clause is labelled as “performance-related,” implying that subsequent windows’ value may vary based on Šeško’s performance.

According to Liverpool.com: Across all competitions, the striker finished this season with 19 goals and 3 assists. It’s a hefty price for a striker who hasn’t really taken off since leaving the Austrian top division,

However, Šeško’s promise is readily apparent to all. It is unclear if Liverpool will choose to become involved. It will likely believe that there is better value out there, but this is not the first time it has trusted a young Red Bull athlete.

Bruno Guimarães bids adieu, and Eddie Howe sums up

Benjamin Šeško

Bruno Guimarães of Newcastle United is another player with a release clause that is intriguing and has ties to Liverpool in the past (mirror). Similar to Šeško, Arsenal is anticipated to be towards the front of the line here as well.

It is Eddie Howe’s wish that Guimarães stays. However, a lot of people have pointed out that his farewell gestures to the Newcastle supporters on the last day of the season resembled a farewell.

With an impassioned expression, he extended both hands to the travelling fans at Brentford. However, Howe has taken steps to downplay the importance.

“It’s not a wave goodbye,” he stated, according to Newcastle World. “I believe Bruno does that frequently, but it can be interpreted in a certain way if those who are watching choose to believe that to be the case.

“I really hope it’s not, from my perspective. We are desperate to keep him because he is a key member of our team and an inspiration.

To be fair, Howe is correct that the context of the transfer links has likely led to people reading too much into Guimarães’ “goodbye.” Liverpool.com states as much. Similar incidents have happened in Liverpool, where fans assumed Trent Alexander-Arnold and Virgil van Dijk were headed home after observing their emotions. Nevertheless, disregarding the farewell gesture, it appears probable that Guimarães will be moving.

Top teams are showing interest in Newcastle, and a high release clause is in place, so the club needs to sell quickly.
