Chelsea and Arsenal given huge Kylian Mbappe transfer twist as 'deal agreement reached with PSG over exit
Arsenal and Chelsea have been linked with a move for Kylian Mbappe this summer, but either move could have taken a turn in recent days

Arsenal and Chelsea have seen a major twist in the Kylian Mbappe saga as the striker discussed the possibility of compensation for PSG if he leaves the club.

A years-long saga ensues, centering on the French forward, who has always been linked with a Parc des Princes exit. This seemed to be resolved last summer with the signing of a new deal until 2025, but it turns out that one of those years was due to the player’s decision to trigger the extension.

When news broke in the summer that the 24-year-old had given up on such a move, the PSG hierarchy was quick to make some bold decisions. The first was an ultimatum to sign a new contract or let him go this summer to avoid losing a world-class player on a free transfer.

With no agreement on a deal, Mbappé has been barred from teaming with a host of other players who were not part of the club’s plans, meaning links to his next club have emerged. Naturally, Real Madrid was a hyped name, while Arsenal and Chelsea were also mentioned as possible destinations.

However, another breakthrough was in store when the World Cup winner returned to PSG last week and scored against Toulouse in a 1-1 draw. During her celebrations he shouted: “I’m staying here”, perhaps indicating his future decision regarding a new contract.

Mbappé’s reinstatement could come thanks to a new deal agreed with PSG, as The Times reports that the French star could be financially compensated in the event of the player’s departure. The deal sees the club claw back part of his current £150m contract for last year and they will have nothing left if he were to complete a free transfer.

With that in mind, the report adds that a contract extension could be on the cards anyway, tying him to a longer stay with the Ligue 1 champions. It remains to be seen how this will affect clubs interested in him, as it would swell probably his transfer price beyond the levels achievable on his own, even before salaries and contract bonuses are taken into account.

Recently, Chelsea and Arsenal discussed a potential summer transfer for Folarin Balogun.

According to a report from The Daily Mail, that is the case.

They assert that talks between Chelsea and Arsenal regarding the acquisition of attacker Folarin Balogun took place on Friday.

In the race to sign the 22-year-old striker, who the Gunners value at £50 million, the Blues are reportedly up against Fulham and Monaco.

The article also states that Fulham will not offer more than £35 million for the American international.

Balogun may have met with Chelsea yesterday, but rumors of a potential transfer out of the Emirates Stadium have been circulating all transfer window.

Balogun has publicly stated his desire to leave Arsenal before the summer transfer window closes in a few weeks, according to a recent report from Sky Sports. They added that other prospective buyers for him include Monaco and Inter Milan.

He appears to be blocked at Arsenal from breaking into the Gunners lineup, so he is desperate for a long-term move elsewhere to play regularly.

Balogun is such a promising young talent, and Gunners manager Mikel Arteta called him “something special” (Arsenal’s official website).

Last year, he spent the entire season on loan at French top-flight club Reims, where he scored 22 goals in 39 appearances across all competitions.

However, we’re not sure Chelsea should spend £50 million on another promising young player.

Two young and ambitious No. 9s who want to lead the line are currently on the Blues’ roster: Nicolas Jackson and Armando Broja. We would prefer a well-known striker with a long history of scoring frequently if Mauricio Pochettino insisted on using another striker.
