Mauricio Pochettino is keen on signing a new Chelsea goalkeeper as several goalkeepers have been linked with a move to Stamford Bridge
Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino is looking to sign a new Stamford Bridge goalkeeper in the summer transfer window, according to football.london.
The Blues are set to sign one of Kepa Arrizabalaga and Edouard Mendy ahead of next season as a number of goalkeepers across Europe are linked with a move to west London.
Inter Milan’s Andre Onana, Brentford’s David Raya and Aston Villa’s Emiliano Martinez are all seen as potential targets for Chelsea.
However, it looks like Pochettino is now interested in bringing a former Arsenal goalkeeper to Stamford Bridge.
According to TuttoJuve, the Blues face competition from their Premier League rivals after the signing of Juventus star Wojciech Szczesny.
The Polish keeper left Arsenal in 2017 and has become one of Juve’s key players over the past six years.
Szczesny’s contract only expires in 2025 which means the Italian side could demand a substantial transfer fee for the 33-year-old to leave the club this summer.
Chelsea were unconvinced by either Kepa or Mendy last season as both goalkeepers failed to prove they deserved to remain the club’s No.1.
The Blues haven’t had a world-class goalkeeper at the club since Thibaut Courtois left in 2018 – but Pochettino wants to change that this summer.
Liverpool and Manchester City have shown with the signings of Alisson and Ederson that a world-class goalkeeper can make the difference.
According to reports from Italy, the Blues are struggling to agree a transfer fee with Inter for a deal to sign Onana – which could see them focus on Szczesny.
AC Milan’s Mike Maignan is reportedly not for sale this summer but the Juventus star could be a smart buy for the Blues.

london. However, due to the size of their inflated roster, the Blues need to focus on developing the current squad members.

Mason Mount is another player who could leave the club, with Manchester United leading the race to sign the 24-year-old, football.
london reveals. Pochettino could be forced into more signings than expected, although the Blues recently pulled out of negotiations for a deal to bring Sporting CP midfielder Manuel Ugarte to the club.
Chelsea must also assess the future of Romelu Lukaku, who will return to Stamford Bridge this summer after his loan deal with Inter Milan expires.
The Italian squad played against Manchester City in the UEFA Champions league and were defeated 1:0. Meeting between the Blues and Inter is reportedly scheduled to discuss Lukaku’s future later this month.
The Belgian striker is believed to be keen to stay at San Siro next season – either on another loan or a permanent transfer.
Chelsea could consider using Lukaku in negotiations over some of Inter’s star players of interest to Pochettino – Andre Onana, Nicolo Barella and Lautaro Martinez have been linked with moves to west London.
All of that will likely be discussed when the two clubs meet this month – while Trevoh Chalobah and Loftus-Cheek could also feature in a potential swap deal for some Inter players.
Pochettino has already secured the signing of Ecuadorian talent Kendry Paez – but the youngster won’t join Chelsea until 2025 when he turns 18.
football.london understands the Blues are pushing for Brighton midfielder Moises Caicedo but face competition from London rivals Arsenal.
Chelsea hope that once the Champions League final is over and Inter’s season is over, they can kick off their summer transfer business and try to meet Pochettino’s demands with the new arrivals.
Latest reports from Italy suggest the Blues have already agreed personal terms with Onana but Inter have set a £50million price tag for their goalkeeper.
Meanwhile, Barella has been in discussions internally with Chelsea that they should need more than two central midfield signings this summer given the amount of spending they could lose in that position.
