Jordan Henderson evaluates Saudi Arabia’s offer
Liverpool need a new captain if it continues
A number of players on the Reds’ roster are contenders
Jordan Henderson could soon join the growing group of veteran players leaving European football for the riches on offer in the Saudi Pro League.
The Liverpool captain is wanted by Al-Ettifaq following the appointment of Anfield legend Steven Gerrard as manager. Henderson isn’t the only wanted player with Liverpool ties either, Sadio Mane and Philippe Coutinho are also targets.
Liverpool will give Henderson time to make up his own mind, although Jurgen Klopp has informed his skipper that he does not want him to leave and he remains a big part of the plans.
Ultimately, Liverpool won’t block a transfer if Henderson decides they want to accept the offer, which is believed to be worth £700,000 a week, or more than £36m a year. It has already sparked major controversy, given the player’s previous support of LGBTQ+ causes as homosexuality and same-sex relationships remain illegal in Saudi Arabia.
If he chooses to take the money, Liverpool will need a new captain for the first time since 2015, when Henderson inherited the armband from the aforementioned Gerrard.
Allison Becker
Goalkeepers can often be preferred captains because they can see the entire field and observe the games in a way that other players cannot while the action is going on.
Alisson is about to enter his sixth season at Liverpool and has been instrumental from day one. It is also worth noting that Roman Weidenfeller was a regular captain of Jurgen Klopp’s Borussia Dortmund. Andrew Robertson
There are few hard working players in the Premier League than Andrew Robertson. That attitude always equates to respect, which is an essential quality of being a captain.
The left-back already has armband experience, having been named Scotland captain at international level for the first time in 2018 and captaining his country at Euro 2020.
Trent Alexander Arnold
There is always something special about a captain who is both a local to the academy and a local to the area. Trent Alexander-Arnold ticks both boxes. At 24, the full-back/midfielder is said to be a relatively young captain.
But he has been a first-team regular for more than five years and is in fact older than Steven Gerrard when he was made Liverpool’s permanent captain in October 2003.
Mohammad Salah
Mohamed Salah will leave Anfield as a Liverpool legend whenever that day comes, for all he has achieved in the shirt since arriving in the summer of 2017.
The Egyptian, who has captained his country since 2019, has never scored less than 19 goals in a Premier League season as a Liverpool player and is instead an option to lead by example.
Virgil van Dijk
With Jordan Henderson not always in the starting XI, Virgil van Dijk has captained Liverpool on a semi-regular basis since his first full season for the club in 2018/19. He’s the obvious choice for the armband succession, with the towering Dutch defender already leading the charge and established national team captain since early 2018.

“Why would he go there?” Levi Colwill’s direct response to a possible transfer to Liverpool
Levi Colwill of Chelsea is a potential defensive addition for Liverpool.
Danny Murphy, a former midfielder for Liverpool, thinks Levi Colwill shouldn’t join the Reds this summer.
The additions of Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai this summer as part of Jurgen Klopp’s team’s midfield overhaul are already welcome additions. In the engine room, James Milner, Naby Keita, and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain all made their exits.
Liverpool is thinking about its defensive options as it attempts to revitalize its backline. Joe Gomez, Virgil van Dijk, Ibrahima Konate, and others were sidelined by injuries throughout the course of the season.
Nat Phillips filled in for Van Dijk against Crystal Palace at Anfield in the second game of the year, demonstrating the strength of their defense. This week, the ECHO reported that Perr Schuurs and Levi Colwill are among the targets, despite the fact that Vfl Wolfsburg’s Micky van de Ven hasn’t been sought after.
The Reds, in addition to Brighton and Hove Albion, have shown interest in Chelsea defender Colwill. The 20-year-old spent the previous season on loan with the Seagulls, and after making an impression there, concerns have been raised about his future at Chelsea.
Although the Londoners have already rejected Roberto De Zerbi’s approach, talk about Liverpool won’t stop.
Murphy would like to see Colwill in Jurgen Klopp’s team, but he doesn’t think the England U21 defender will displace Van Dijk and Konate as the team’s top defensive options.
“If his desire — which it sounds like it is, and fair play to him — is to play first-team football,” he said to talkSPORT. Although I am a Liverpool supporter and would love to see him there, I question why he would choose that team given his talent.
“He won’t be playing.
He would request a loan from me if I were him.
Spend one more year in Brighton.
Despite the fact that he is potentially very, very good, I don’t believe he would play regularly for Liverpool. He won’t start in front of Virgil van Dijk or Ibrahima Konate. ”.
