Liverpool are now looking forward to their next game with Aston Villa, in which Jürgen Klopp will look to secure a third Premier League win of the 2023/24 season.

Wins against Bournemouth and Newcastle United as well as a solid draw at Stamford Bridge lifted the Reds to fourth place. A coveted place that Klopp and his men want to keep throughout the season, after missing out on a Champions League place last season.

As a result, Liverpool will be playing in the Europa League this season, potentially meaning more games for an already small team. The Premier League could secure an extra qualifying place for the continent’s elite league this season, but it comes too late to offer Klopp much consolation. As has already been established with Ibrahima Konaté injured and Virgil van Dijk suspended following his red card against Newcastle, Klopp is in dire need of reinforcements before the transfer window closes on September 1.

FC Bayern Munich’s Ryan Gravenberch and Fiorentina’s Sofyan Amrabat are seen as potential midfield signings, while Bayer Leverkusen’s Piero Hancapié could be a viable option to reinforce at left-back given the lack of depth.

With match and transfer rumors rife, it might be difficult to keep up with the latest Liverpool news. Here are the two must-see Liverpool.com stories of the day.

Dreamlike Liverpool transfer final

As the final days of the summer transfer window begin, it is impossible to rule out any further signings for the Reds before Friday’s deadline. Both midfield and defense need new signings to provide a clear and reliable base for the successful Liverpool forwards waiting for them.

Liverpool could now turn to recently relegated Leicester City midfielder Wilfred Ndidi, according to the Independent. The Foxes are said to be ‘ready for business’ before the window closes – and that could unlock Klopp’s favorite formation from his days at Borussia Dortmund.

Liverpool took the stunning decision last summer to part ways with $108m (£85m/€99m) to bring former Benfica striker Darwin Núñez to the club.

Although the Uruguayan has already had an impressive season at Benfica, he failed to lead the Premier League to success in his first season at Anfield. The player was – unfortunately for him – constantly compared to Manchester City’s goalscorer Erling Haaland, as they were signed at the same time and for huge fees.

With nine goals and three more assists, Núñez finished his first season at the Reds and looked uncomfortable at Anfield. This was mainly due to the way Liverpool manager Jürgen Klopp used him, forcing him to perform like former fan favorites Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane, either sinking deep or running wide.

However, after his brief but emphatic cameo against Newcastle United last weekend, the player has clearly shown his boss how to use him in the future. He bears striking similarities to Pep Guardiola’s use of Haaland for Manchester City.

“Terrific” £160,000-a-week star backed to seal “big” Liverpool transfer
Liverpool are connected to more than ll few players who could be chosen for the number 6 role, and one of those is Manchester City playmaker Kalvin Phillips.

The England international was a superstar for Leeds United, but since moving to the Etihad last year, he’s been just a bench warmer under Pep Guardiola.

City have played five games so far this season and the £160,000-a-week star hasn’t played for a minute.

In such a scenario, Phillips is willing to seal a move to Liverpool this summer. Former Hammers forward Frank McAvennie told Football Insider:

“I could tell him straight away that he won’t be in the Manchester City team. Sometimes it’s enough to say, “I tried, pay me and I’ll go somewhere else.”

“If you have the opportunity to go to Liverpool, take it because it’s a big step.”

Former Anfield goalkeeper David James has praised the Three Lions midfielder and believes he would fit in at Anfield.

“I think Kalvin Phillips is a great player. There is absolutely no reason why Kalvin Phillips shouldn’t fit into the Liverpool team.”

“I don’t think Kalvin will need a long time to settle in when he moves to Liverpool.”

The 27-year-old made 27 appearances for the senior team and was a key member of Southgate’s side which reached the European Championship final two years ago.

However, things have changed dramatically for him since joining the Premier League champions. He is due to leave this summer to play week after week to secure a place in the Euro 2024 squad.

Do you think Liverpool should sign Phillips before the deadline?
