Despite Jurgen Klopp's plea, a Liverpool star is expected to leave in the summer, with the squad to be "turned upside down."

Despite Jurgen Klopp’s entreaties for the team to extend an offer to Joel Matip, Joel Matip is drawing interest from Italy as Liverpool prepares to bid farewell to a number of prominent players this summer.

Italian teams are reportedly interested in Joel Matip, a defender who is expected to depart Liverpool at the end of the current campaign.

A severe knee injury has kept the center-half out of action for significant portions of the season. Due to an anterior cruciate ligament injury that occurred back in December, he was unable to play during the season and has not been able to demonstrate his value as his contract is coming to an end.

According to Italian publication Corriere Della Sera, Matip has followed the developments of both Roma and Lazio and is therefore open to relocating to Rome. The Cameroonian finds appeal in both clubs, but he is apprehensive about the wage loss he would have to accept if he left Anfield.

Matip was signed early in the Jurgen Klopp era and has shown to be a dependable companion for Virgil van Dijk. Despite leaving the dugout, the Liverpool manager had hoped the team would have some class and offer him a new contract despite his layoff. He’s been there for all of their success under the German.

Because of his many years of club service, Klopp feels that Liverpool should be kind to him while he recovers. “I’m pretty sure the club will show their class, just how they should do,” he previously stated.

“I believe the club has already informed Joel that, as long as he is hurt, anything can happen. Joel and I now need to decide how things should proceed together. That’s a typical course of action. However, he does deserve all of our support, and he will receive it.”

When asked if that suggested the team will offer him a new contract, Klopp said, “I would say so, but in the end, it’s not my decision.” I am unable to sign this document.

In a few weeks, Liverpool will welcome a new manager to Anfield, and it’s expected that adjustments will be made. A report claims the team will be “turned upside down.” The new guy will probably be in charge of a bit of an overhaul because some of their squad members are becoming older. Although Van Dijk has been a formidable presence, Klopp has made cuts and made changes in his place.

Matip’s propensity for injuries may work against him because neither Ibrahima Konate nor Joe Gomez were able to claim the position. Big names could move on as well. While Thiago is expected to go, Darwin Nunez’s future is becoming a topic of conversation as he keeps exposing his shortcomings.
