Liverpool’s summer transfer activity slowed slightly by the signing of World Cup winner Alexis Mac Allister but Jurgen Klopp is working hard to bring in new recruits
Liverpool’s summer transfer window has started with a bang, with the signing of World Cup winner Alexis Mac Allister from Premier League rivals Brighton.
Things have slowed down a bit for the Reds since the Argentinian arrived at Anfield. This is despite Reds boss Jurgen Klopp being desperate for recruiting as he aims to help his side recover from a terribly disappointing season.
RB Leipzig star Dominik Szoboszlai has become a surprise target in recent days, with Klopp going all out to sign the striker after an impressive spell in the Bundesliga. Here, Mirror Football rounds up all the latest Liverpool transfer news
Liverpool’s move to Dominik Szoboszlai could prove complicated, although the Reds are eager to sign the striker. The Hungarian was instrumental in both RB Leipzig and his country, making 48 appearances for the former last season.
But The Athletic say any possible deal between Liverpool and Leipzig will be “complicated”. Even Anfield’s leaders have privately admitted that it will be “very difficult” to reach an agreement.
Liverpool leaders met with representatives for the 22-year-old earlier this week to begin talks. However, it will cost a “significant” outlay to sign him, but he is known to remain at the top of the Reds’ shopping list. Church boost delivered
Jürgen Klopp has received a significant boost in his hopes of signing Federico Chiesa. The Italian has been one of Serie A’s best strikers in recent years and has been regularly linked with a move to Anfield.
These connections could now be given extra weight, with Corriere dello Sport reporting that he is no longer in Juventus manager Massimiliano Allegri’s plans. Juve are now ready to sell the striker if an “interesting offer” is presented.
Allegri’s favorite 3-5-2 doesn’t suit Chiesa, who is no longer “at the center of the project”. The prospect of a sale is gaining momentum and Juve are willing to hear offers in the region of £52m.
Liverpool have been ruled out of a move to Napoli star Victor Osimhen. The striker won the Serie A Golden Boot last season, leading his side to their first Scudetto since Diego Maradona joined the club.
His performances made him a target for several top-flight clubs, including Manchester United. But one club that definitely won’t sign him is Liverpool, with Caught Offside saying a striker is unlikely to be signed this summer.
Klopp already has a number of options at his disposal in attacking areas and his current plan is to stick with the Anfield players. Liverpool may consider signing a younger striker but Osimhen is not on their shopping list.

Agent says Jürgen Klopp should complete a “super” cut-rate deal, making Liverpool his “dream” team.
An agent has revealed his client dreams of clubs like ‘Liverpool’ and could be an ideal replacement for Mohamed Salah for Jurgen Klopp at Anfield next season.
Mohamed Salah is an elite footballer, but as he grows up, Liverpool can’t afford to rely on him alone forever. Sooner or later Jürgen Klopp has to find a solution where he can rest his top man and give him some respite during the busy seasons.
There is currently no one in the Liverpool squad who can cover Salah on the right wing. Diogo Jota has played there in the past, but he’s more effective in other roles and doesn’t have an outstanding resume.
Harvey Elliott could be another option, but in Liverpool’s system he’s better suited to a midfield role as the 20-year-old simply doesn’t have the speed and explosiveness to play in all three first of the Reds.
Other options like Ben Doak and Kaide Gordon are still in their infancy and Liverpool cannot rely on them either as Doak and Gordon need time to adjust to the demands of senior football.
That’s why the Reds should consider the market for another forward option this summer. Roberto Firmino’s departure leaves the Brazilian free in attack and Liverpool should look to fill that gap with a replacement option for Salah.
One player who could be an interesting candidate for the role is Hirving Lozano. Lozano, a fringe member of Napoli’s Scudetto-winning squad in Italy, is keen to take on new responsibilities this summer and recently his agent Alessandro Monfrecola made an interesting plea for Liverpool to be dropped by name.
Mondo Napoli writes that Lozano’s agent appeared as a guest on a radio show on Punto Nuovo where he was asked about his client and Monfrecola said the following:
“West Ham and Aston Villa have shown interest in Lozano but it seems to be a half-hearted interest. Lozano has always dreamed of clubs like Liverpool and Manchester United so I don’t think he can be particularly attracted to them [the two others].”]”
For the right price, Liverpool should consider making Lozano’s offer a reality. Although he hasn’t really started at Napoli yet, Lozano isn’t a bad option as a squad player if you take him off the bench or use him occasionally – for example when Salah is out at the CAN.
He finished the season with eight goals in 2075 minutes, averaging 0.35 goals per 90 minutes.
One would expect an offensive player to deliver a much better return on average, but considering Lozano has mostly been used off the bench, that’s not a bad return. Last season he finished the season in much better form with 12 goals in 1998 minutes.
With his contract expiring next summer and the player clearly willing to move elsewhere, there is the possibility that a favorable deal will be struck for Liverpool.
At the right price, he’s worth a try, especially as before moving to Napoli, Lozano was on Liverpool’s radar and Klopp has spoken highly of him in the past.
During the 2019/20 season, when Liverpool faced Napoli in the Champions League group stage, Klopp had this to say about Lozano during his press conference:
“He IS a great player, a super player. Big signing. I thought he was very good but he went to Napoli but seriously he is a very good player. Very good striker, interesting, he played very well in the first game against him.
Having already received Klopp’s stamp of approval, Liverpool should be tempted to back Lozano and help Salah.
