Joao Carlos Teixeira, who played for Liverpool under Jurgen Klopp after graduating from the Sporting Lisbon academy, has expressed his opinion about Ruben Amorim’s chances of taking over for the German at Anfield.

Former Reds midfielder Joao Carlos Teixeira thinks that Ruben Amorim is prepared for “a challenge like Liverpool.”

In preparation for Jurgen Klopp’s departure in the summer, Liverpool is looking for a new manager. They will, however, be disappointed as Xabi Alonso said last week that he would turn down interest from the Reds and Bayern Munich in order to remain at Bayer Leverkusen.

Former Liverpool footballer Roberto De Zerbi and Sporting Lisbon manager Amorim are currently two of the front-runners to follow Klopp, who was previously expected to be replaced by the former midfielder.

Teixiera, who cost £830,000 to sign, came to the Reds in January 2012 from the Sporting Lisbon school. Under Klopp, he played seven games during the 2015–16 campaign before leaving for Portugal at the end of his contract.

The Portuguese player, who is currently at Shanghai Shenhua in China, unavoidably keeps tabs on the developments at both of his previous teams. While he notes that Amorim would employ a different coaching philosophy than Klopp, Teixeira is confident that his countryman is prepared for a move to the Premier League, although he has cautioned that he would require time to adjust.

He recently compared Klopp and Amorim tactically, telling Record that they are both distinct. With Klopp using a four-man defender and Ruben using a three-man defence, they play distinct styles of football. Despite his youth, Ruben has demonstrated his abilities and performed well in recent years.

“He has already achieved success. They have performed well in both the Europa League and the Champions League. Sporting is performing admirably right now, but they have in the past as well.

“Ruben is building his reputation in order to advance to a more difficult task, such as Liverpool. Similar to what happened, I believe, with Chelsea when they first recruited Mourinho and subsequently Villas-Boas.

“You can easily adjust in England because football is a highly successful sport there. Everything is really well-organized and clear in England. Everything is ready ahead of time to ensure a smooth process.

But a coach finds it challenging to adjust to this league. You must adjust to training, life, and schedules. Above all, it’s adjusting to the new world and the game, which is significantly different from what occurs in Portugal and other nations.

Even Guardiola had to adjust after giving up a lot of goals on the counterattack during his first season in the Premier League. It moves at a different speed. Even if you are in control of the game, everything might change at any time.

Teixiera, meantime, is thinking back on Klopp’s decision to leave Liverpool and thinks the team will be fine without the German coach.

“At the time, the club was well-managed,” he remarked. “On a sports level, Klopp changed that. The players at this extremely well-run organisation are left to focus only on their task of playing football.

It’s a really powerful brand. Klopp is back to set him up for success in the race for awards and titles.

It turns out to be a natural conclusion to the cycle. He’s won everything there over the past nine years, so if he feels that’s the best course of action for him, that’s the decision. You have to give him credit and acknowledge his contributions to the team and all of his victories.

“The team appears ready for the future, and it’s quite normal for this to happen.”
