Ex-Liverpool forward Roberto Firmino's six-month ordeal in Saudi Arabia is finally over.

On the return of the Saudi Pro League, former Liverpool player Roberto Firmino scored his first goal since August but was unable to stop Al-Ahli from losing their first game since October.

After spending 18 games without a goal, Roberto Firmino finally put an end to his goal drought with Al-Ahli as the Saudi Pro League resumed.

After his team’s midseason break, the former Liverpool attacker scored his first goal since August. In the season’s first game, Firmino scored his first hat-trick, but he didn’t score again until Friday night.

Just before halftime, the 32-year-old tied the score after Al-Ahli had fallen behind to Al Akhdoud twice via the penalty spot. The hosts took the lead through goals from Alex Collado and Hamed Al Mansour, but Firmino’s squad first drew even thanks to an own goal from Solomon Kvirkvella, and then the Brazilian tied the score with a penalty kick.

But it proved insufficient for the Jeddad-based side to emerge with a portion of the loot. Akhdoud’s win was secured by a goal by Leandre Tawamba in the second half.

Firmino’s goal-scoring struggles came to an end, but Al-Ahli—home to players like Edouard Mendy, Franck Kessie, Allan Saint-Maximin, and Riyad Mahrez—lost for the first time since October as their eight-game winning streak came to an end. Despite being 16 points behind Al-Hilal, Firmino’s squad is ranked third in the table.

Ex-Liverpool forward Roberto Firmino's six-month ordeal in Saudi Arabia is finally over.

The former forward for Hoffenheim made 362 appearances for Liverpool before leaving the club after his contract expired and moving to the Middle East. Prior to the season’s opening game, Firmino was chosen captain after agreeing to a three-year contract with Al-Ahli.

Firmino has 111 goals for Liverpool, but he has struggled to find the back of the net in Saudi Arabia. The Figueirense young product lost all of its initial success in front of goal.

In the first 11 league games, Firmino hardly missed a minute, but when his problems persisted, he was benched. Firmino played in just seven games for a total of 94 minutes before making his comeback on Friday.

The Brazilian star struggled to adjust to life in the Middle East. After suffering a heart attack in Dubai in November, Firmino unfortunately lost his father, Jose Roberto Cordeiro, who was 62 years old.

Winter transfer rumours abounded, with Al-Fateh expressing interest in a loan agreement and Steven Gerrard rumoured to be eager to acquire Firmino for Al-Ettifaq. Though it was reported that Firmino had no intention of leaving Al-Ahli, a return to Europe was also suggested.

The nine-goal, ten-assist right defender Xabi Alonso says a move to Liverpool “would be great.”

One of his star players acknowledges that it "would be great" to play for Liverpool's manager at the end of the current campaign

One of his star players acknowledges that it “would be great” to play for Liverpool’s manager at the end of the current campaign, Xabi Alonso.

Since Bayer Leverkusen is presently leading the Bundesliga and eight points ahead of Bayern Munich, it is understandable that the team is winning over supporters throughout Europe.

As a result, when Jurgen Klopp leaves Liverpool this summer, the manager will be given consideration for the position, and his players will be offered to other teams.

One can anticipate relationships between Alonso and his star Leverkusen players if he decides to return to Anfield.

One of them might be right-back Jeremie Frimpong, who has already contributed nine goals and ten assists this season. In terms of goal involvements from defenders in Europe’s top five leagues, he is only surpassed by Leverkusen’s Alejandro Grimaldo (21 goals).

Frimpong seems willing to join Liverpool, even if Trent Alexander-Arnold and the developing Conor Bradley are already there for that role.

According to Dutch newspaper Voetbal International, the 23-year-old acknowledged that playing for the Reds “would be great” in an interview with Ziggo Sport.

Liverpool? Fantastic club with a rich past. When inquired whether he could envision himself accompanying Alonso to Merseyside, he replied, “That would be great.”

“You never know what the future holds.”

The roster that Klopp left behind is likely to be viewed differently by any new manager that takes over the Anfield dugout, which might result in alterations throughout the summer.

Even though right-back isn’t usually thought of as a problem position (unless the incoming manager decides to shift Alexander-Arnold to midfield), Frimpong is one of the best in Europe at that position.

The Netherlands international could at least come up in discussions about potential targets if Alonso took control.

It would appear that persuading Frimpong to join would not present any difficulties, indicating the attraction Liverpool would retain even with a new manager.
