Although Liverpool has developed some talented players in recent years, it appears that Elijah Gift, a young forward, won’t get much of a chance to impress.
The adolescent has been hailed as one of Liverpool’s academy’s most promising prospects.
Gift signed a contract with Athletico Bilbao, however, and the Reds have lost him to La Liga.
Fabrizio Romano confirmed the news tonight on Twitter, explaining how Gift has committed to Bilbao through the year 2028. Although a medical has been completed, no information has been provided regarding any sort of fee Liverpool will receive.
Gift, who is listed as an “exciting player who can play on either flank” on Liverpool’s academy pages, is obviously hoping for more opportunities in Spain.
Gift just turned 17 a short while ago.
It will only become clear over the course of that lengthy contract he signed whether or not his decision to move to Spain was the right one.
One of those things.
It’s never easy for big clubs to keep all of their best young players, and it appears that Gift found the prospect of a lucrative contract abroad to be too alluring.
Being offered a five year contract with a major La Liga club is a good deal, to be fair. This will likely be somewhat depressing for Liverpool.
Gift, however, will view it as an opportunity to join Bilbao’s first team and have an impact.
He is undoubtedly someone Liverpool supporters should keep an eye on over the coming few years.

Jürgen Klopp wants to replace Thiago for $64 million star, and a massive offer has already been submitted, according to Liverpool transfer news.

Liverpool transfer news: It’s been reported that Jürgen Klopp is keeping an eye out for a potential Thiago replacement, and that a huge offer has reportedly been made for Kylian Mbappé.
The summer transfer window has gotten off to an almost flawless start for Liverpool. Two significant components of the rebuild have already been completed before preseason, and the first group of players will be returning to the AXA Training Center on Saturday.
Liverpool has changed two-thirds of its midfield with the additions of Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai, and there may be more to come in that area as well as farther back in Jürgen Klopp’s defense.
Liverpool needed a significant summer transfer window to get back on track, and the Reds have made a great start by moving ahead of many rivals to sign two top players.
However, that won’t be enough to satisfy the Liverpool fan base’s hunger. Even two midfield additions of that caliber do not amount to a rebuild.
Szoboszlai was almost immediately forgotten in favor of whoever might enter the room after him once he had passed through the door and had his picture taken wearing his new number eight shirt.
Roméo Lavia (Southampton)

The Telegraph reports that Liverpool is prepared to let Thiago Alcântara go this summer and might replace him with Southampton midfielder Roméo Lavia, who is valued at $64 million (£50 million/€58 million).
According to The Athletic, Thiago is courting interest from the Saudi Pro League and has already turned down an offer from a local club. But a departure from Liverpool cannot be completely ruled out because the Spaniard’s contract expires next summer.
Lavia, meanwhile, has emerged as Liverpool’s top choice for the position as the Reds consider their options in the market following the arrival of Szoboszlai earlier this week.
Lavia would be a good long-term option for the Reds, and while he wouldn’t be a direct substitute for Thiago, it would be a case of swapping one out and bringing one in. Due to the significantly better injury track record of the current midfielders, Liverpool may not necessarily need more players in this position.
Kylian Mbappé (PSG)

Kylian Mbappé and Liverpool: a never-ending story. This time, journalist Edu Aguirre claimed in an interview with El Chiringuito TV that the Reds have made a staggering $217 million (£171 million/€200 million) offer for the Frenchman, who PSG has put up for sale.
The 24-year-old has made it clear that he has no intention of signing a contract extension with the Ligue 1 club, so PSG does not want to lose Mbappé for nothing next summer.
Real Madrid, though, is the destination that Mbappé is most likely to choose. This has been the situation for a while, as Liverpool is well aware of his talent and prowess—but also his price tag.
It is simply impossible for the Reds to spend that much money on a single player, according to Liverpool.com. Even though it would be less than Neymar’s transfer from Barcelona to PSG, it is simply not going to happen. Even without the transfer fee, Mbappé would be extremely expensive, and Liverpool will never approve of it.
