Following £15 million transfer response, Fabio Carvalho has already addressed his future with Liverpool. Southampton attempted to bid £15 million

Southampton attempted to bid £15 million for Liverpool’s Fabio Carvalho, who scored in the team’s 3-0 victory over Manchester United.

After the Reds turned down a deal of about £15 million from recently promoted Southampton, Fabio Carvalho already acknowledged that he would like to push his way into the Liverpool starting lineup under Arne Slot. Prior to Hull’s acquisition of Carvalho on loan in January, Saints had expressed interest in him.

Carvalho had a difficult first half of the season at RB Leipzig, but he turned in a strong second half of the season with nine goals and two assists in 20 appearances for the Tigers. Since returning to Liverpool at the beginning of the preseason, the Portuguese player has performed admirably under Slot, scoring goals in both Saturday’s 3-0 triumph over Manchester United in the United States and Saturday’s 2-1 victory over Arsenal.

However, as The Athletic first revealed, Liverpool has rejected a £15 million bid for Carvalho from Southampton. The Reds will only hear offers far in excess of this figure if they are to sell the forward this summer, and the ECHO is unwilling to approve another loan switch for the forward. Summer 2022 saw Liverpool buy Carvalho from Fulham with an initial £5 million that would increase to £7.7 million.

Carvalho has started Liverpool’s first four preseason games, with Darwin Nunez, Cody Gakpo, and Luis Diaz not expected to return to preseason training until the following week. Additionally, Carvalho disclosed last week that he had a conversation with Slot, the new manager who took over for Jurgen Klopp earlier this summer, regarding his future.

After their July 26 victory over Real Betis, Carvalho made the following statement: “He wants me to put in a lot of effort and work hard, and we’ve had a few conversations, which I won’t go into detail about.” Carvalho can play anywhere in the forward line, so there is still some doubt about him, even though he hasn’t settled into a regular spot at Anfield yet.

We had a conversation about it, and he advised me to try to settle on the wing, but I feel like a 10 is where I play the best, clearly. Carvalho continued, “I’m just going to do what he wants me to do and work as hard as I can for him.”

This follows Carvalho’s earlier summer revelation that he wants to try to establish a regular position in the Liverpool lineup. When asked if he thought he would have a chance to play for the first team this season, Carvalho responded, “I can only hope so! Not only for myself, but for everyone arriving as well; there’s a new gaffer, so this is everyone’s chance to make an impression, and then we’ll proceed accordingly.

“The most important thing is to keep working hard, and that’s what I’m attempting to maximise.” It’s evident that he wants me to take the defensive action first. He is aware of my strengths. I like having someone who is constantly watching out for me and making sure I’m doing things right, and the gaffer provides that for me.”
