"I might go"—a Liverpool defender makes a departure hint and discloses transfer talks with Ajax

Sepp van den Berg, a defender for Liverpool, disclosed that he had transfer negotiations with Ajax last summer in preparation for a possible move.

In an attempt to raise the possibility of leaving Liverpool, Sepp van den Berg disclosed that he had transfer negotiations with Ajax last summer.

Currently on loan in Germany with Mainz 05, the Netherlands Under-21 international has made 18 appearances across all competitions and scored one goal to assist the team stay narrowly above the relegation zone.

After spending £1.3 million to join to Anfield in the summer of 2019, the Dutchman had successful experiences with Preston North End and Schalke. This is the third temporary switch of his Reds career.

Van den Berg, who has only made four first team appearances for Liverpool so far, acknowledges that he is planning to relocate overseas once more.

He told ESPN, “In the summer, I gave (former Ajax manager) Maurice Steijn a call.” Although it lacked specificity, interest was evident.

“Ajax is still a huge club, but I’m more focused on playing overseas.” Germany or England, for sure. Now that I’m looking abroad, I might want to visit Spain or Italy as well.

“I’ve been travelling overseas since I was a young child, and although I never say never, I’m concentrating on travelling this summer.”

Jordan Henderson, the former captain of Liverpool, completed his own transfer to Amsterdam earlier this week, but Van den Berg chose not to come to Ajax. The 22-year-old also believes that the Dutch powerhouses made a terrific signing in his former teammate.

He declared, “Henderson is really a top guy.” In addition to being a true leader off the pitch, he is a pleasant man. Without a doubt, Ajax’s youthful, gifted lineup could use a custodian in midfield.

He is the ideal person, in my opinion, to do it. He has a wonderful attitude and is a true skipper.”He can have a great conversation with a trainer off the pitch if there is an issue with the player group, for example.

He excels at drawing conclusions that are grounded in reality. He’s a wonderful man; you may laugh and have nice chats with him. On the pitch, he is also a true leader.

“The vacant stadiums were passable for strolling through during the Corona Period. Everything that was going on on the pitch is audible. He can be heard over the rest of the crowd when watching Liverpool matches.

He thus truly leads the squad by example. He’s an excellent captain, in my opinion.”

Momodou Sonko

Because of their recent success in the Premier League, Liverpool is once again a very desirable place for football players to play.

Due to the Reds’ rich heritage, they will always hold a unique place in English football lore, and Jurgen Klopp hopes to carry on the legendary Anfield era.

Against the backdrop of the Covid epidemic, the German team won their first Premier League title and their first English top flight victory in thirty years, but they were unable to raise the trophy in front of their supporters.

Liverpool lost a number of players, mostly from midfield, last summer, and ended up in the Europa League instead of its “big brother,” the Champions League, after an unremarkable 2022–2023 season.

But any concerns the Anfield supporters may have had about the team’s immediate future have been immediately allayed as Klopp has the team doing incredibly well once more.

There are many reasons to think that this could be another historic season, on par with those in the more distant and recent past. Liverpool is currently atop the Premier League table based solely on merit, and they have an advantage going into the second leg of the Carabao Cup semi-final. They also appear very confident in Europe.

In light of this, Fichajes reports that the Reds will compete with Barcelona for the signature of highly regarded 18-year-old Momodou Sonko, who will join for Swedish team BK Hacken for just €10 million
