"I would be horrified" Richard Keys and Andy Grey discuss Bruno Fernandes' Liverpool theory following a red card.

Next weekend at Anfield, Liverpool will try to capitalise on Manchester United’s lack of confidence.

According to football analyst Richard Keys, Bruno Fernandes received a straight booking against Bournemouth on Saturday afternoon in order to guarantee he wouldn’t feature in Manchester United’s match against Liverpool the following weekend.

In United’s 3-0 home loss to the Cherries, Fernandes received his fifth yellow card of the year. As a result, he will now have to serve a one-game suspension and miss the trip to Anfield.

Keys believes the Portugal international’s horrific experience as captain on Merseyside last season—during which his team lost badly, 7–0—must have been on the midfielder’s mind shortly before he was warned by referee Peter Bankes.

“Do you think Fernandes knew that if he got booked, he was going to miss the Liverpool game?” Keys asked fellow beIN Sports host Andy Grey in an attempt to start a discussion over Fernandes’ suspension.

In reaction to these statements, Grey said, “Of course he would know.” Keys went on: “So he has got himself booked on purpose, knowing it is a good one to miss?” Grey responded to this by saying, “Well, his memories of Anfield from the previous season are not that great. The previous season, he had a terrible time at Anfield. I hope not if you’re asking if the Manchester United captain intentionally books himself so he can’t play for his team and supporters. Should a football player do it, I would be horrified.”

Although Keys is certain that the former Sporting great meant to do so, Grey may not have been entirely convinced by the notion of the United captain consciously trying to rule himself out of playing Liverpool.

“I believe he is aware that United quit playing after trailing 3-0, and it might have been four or five. The 66-year-old thought, “I think he knows that next week could be a bad day out for the football club.”

“I can’t think of any other situation where I could give him the benefit of the doubt and say, ‘It was a hot moment,’ if we’re all agreed that he would miss the game if he knew he got booked. No, it wasn’t.

“He probably knew he would be booked and would have to miss the game. That’s about it, in my opinion. Proper Manchester United captains have questioned his leadership and captaincy, and he is neither of those things.”

Liverpool has set their sights on Sao Paulo’s Lucas Beraldo, a young player, as they attempt to bolster their defence.

Brazil has great expectations for the 20-year-old, and he might end up being a valuable long-term addition to the Premier League team.

It’s no secret that Liverpool needs defence reinforcements, and the 20-year-old Joel Matip replacement may be the best option in the long run. Virgil Van Dijk and Ibrahima Konate are the team’s only other trustworthy central defenders at the moment.

According to a UOL report, Liverpool is the front-runners to sign the 20-year-old defender, but it’s unclear if they can finalise a deal. It will be tempting for the gifted young defender to sign with a major team like Liverpool, but it is unclear if the Premier League team can work out a deal with Sao Paulo.

In addition to playing left-sided central defence, Beraldo can also play right-sided central defence. Additionally, his versatility allows him to play as a defensive midfielder.

Liverpool may have made a smart investment in the 20-year-old if they can work out a fair deal with the Brazilian team for him. The defender might be a valuable long-term asset for Liverpool if he can continue to grow into a top-tier Premier League player
