Even though it seems nearly impossible, Liverpool needs to replace Jurgen Klopp this summer after the German’s departure was announced a few months ago. That challenge has recently been more challenging due to Xabi Alonso’s stay at Bayer Leverkusen, but the Reds have some encouraging news after learning of Ruben Amorim’s recent condition.

Update on Ruben Amorim and Liverpool

After Alonso declared he would be staying at Leverkusen for at least another season, Michael Edwards and Richard Hughes had little choice but to turn their focus away from him. In a perfect world, one of Europe’s top managerial possibilities would have been en route to Anfield; nevertheless, Alonso made his decision, so Liverpool will have to find another player.

Since the Alonso announcement, two names have come up frequently: Roberto De Zerbi, who has excelled at Brighton & Hove Albion, and Ruben Amorim of Sporting CP, who has made an equally good impression in Portugal. But according to reports, the Brighton player isn’t exactly at the top of the Reds’ shortlist right now.

Pedro Sepulveda claims that Liverpool has officially begun talks to bring in Amorim to succeed Klopp this summer and is in the lead to sign the highly-regarded 39-year-old. The manager’s purported release clause, which is worth a cool €20 million (£17 million), means that the contract won’t be cheap. However, it may be renegotiated in the coming months, and it might even be set lower for clubs outside of Portugal.

Naturally, Sepulveda was the first to report that Darwin Nunez was joining Liverpool, and it appears that he has now given Anfieldites more good news ahead of a busy summer transfer season. Should talks become fruitful, the Reds might have discovered Klopp’s successor.

Any replacement for Klopp needs to have the same sense of style as the legendary Anfield player. Liverpool would need to give Amorim time to get used to life in the Premier League as he is still a young manager (he is 39 years old), but like Klopp, it might end up being worthwhile in the end. The fact that Klopp is leaving behind a team that is winning the Premier League right now, with academy players thriving more than they have since the days of Jamie Carragher, Michael Owen, and Steven Gerrard, will surely assist.
