In an attempt to describe his playing style, new Liverpool manager Arne Slot has described it as “attack-minded,” “intense,” and “aggressive.”
For anyone, replacing Jurgen Klopp would be a difficult task. To guarantee a smooth transition, Liverpool hopes to have found a coach in Slot who shares similar values.
UEFA.com was given the following explanation by Slot, the Feyenoord manager, about his club’s style of play: “We are an attack-minded team that likes to have a lot of the ball and we play with a lot of intensity.”
“We want to regain possession of the ball as soon as possible, so we’ll be proactive and apply pressure to do so. We seem like a team that is hard to defeat.
Prior to Feyenoord’s 1-0 loss to Roma in the Europa Conference League final in 2022, Slot made this statement.
The Dutchman went on, “You [need to] concentrate on your opponent, their advantages and disadvantages. Although that is the goal of the match plan, it would be odd to use a different approach in the championship game.
“As long as everyone is fit, we will play our standard lineup and with the players you would expect.”
Does everything sound like you? This is due to the fact that when Klopp joined Liverpool, it is essentially how he wanted his club to play.
Like his predecessor, Slot is expected to opt for a 4-3-3 formation, while there have been rumours that he may use a more 4-2-3-1 style. Both are actually comparable when not in possession.
Slot has also had to adjust as Klopp has had to switch to a more possession-based style of play in recent years.
Michael Statham, a Dutch football journalist, told This Is Anfield that Liverpool might not need to drastically alter their tactical strategy.
Statham stated, “He loves to play a 4-2-3-1, but in Dutch style that’s basically a 4-3-3.”
“His team Feyenoord has the most turnovers of any club in the top seven European leagues; Liverpool is in second position.
“They’re always fighters when it comes to returning to games because of their recoveries as well. They enjoy pressing the issue with opponents, and his style of coaching is simply very offensive.
“I believe he enjoys using his width to push more players forward and create space in the middle of the pitch by using a double pivot,” the analyst said.
Both athletes and managers require fresh ideas. Slot’s ability to seamlessly integrate the players at his disposal and add a few more that he feels are necessary to realise his vision will be crucial to his success.
