Joe Gomez might compel Liverpool to make a move after the £45 million deal fell through at the last minute

Before a deal with Newcastle fell through, Joe Gomez was expected to leave Liverpool, but the defender is still open to moving elsewhere, which would force the Reds to enter the transfer market.
If Joe Gomez decides to explore a move away from Anfield, Liverpool might need to look for a new defender.
The England defender joined the team in 2015, but he hasn’t been able to prove himself as a regular starter. As a result, he is keeping his options open in hopes of getting more playing time. Although Joel Matip recently departed, there is still fierce competition because Jarell Quansah has emerged to play alongside Virgil van Dijk.
Gomez’s adaptability has long been a valuable asset to the Reds, but there have been rumours that he may be moving to Newcastle. The 27-year-old was reportedly going to be a part of a £45 million deal that would have seen Anthony Gordon move to Anfield, and the Magpies are still interested in him.
Although that approach backfired, Gomez is still open to the possibility of working for a different company where he may command regular minutes. Should that come to pass, Liverpool would probably increase their efforts to find a new defender.
Prior to Gomez’s move to Newcastle, a prospective medical was being planned during the Euros, and as the Daily Mail reports, Gomez’s colleagues from England expressed their happiness at the prospect of playing regularly in his preferred role as a right-sided centre back.
Newcastle was motivated to pursue the purchase because of PSR’s financial worries, but they decided to back out at the last minute. They came up with other options, calling off the Gordon-Gomez deal and selling Elliot Anderson to Nottingham Forest and Yankuba Minteh to Brighton.
Defensive reinforcements were lower on Liverpool’s list of priorities—they haven’t signed anyone under Arne Slot—but any departure would probably compel them to adjust their strategy in the market.
The Reds are still interested in Marc Guehi, a star player for Crystal Palace, but they haven’t made a bid for him yet. The former Chelsea defender has developed further at Selhurst Park and, after being elevated to a starting position, was one of England’s best players during the Euros.
Dutch player Sepp van den Berg is another player Liverpool may let go. The defender has been on numerous loan stints while honing his skills; he most recently played for Mainz in Germany. The player has made public comments regarding his future, and the Reds have set a £20 million price tag for him.
