Khvicha Kvaratskhelia

Liverpool have a strong lineup for their left-wing position, featuring Luis Diaz, Cody Gakpo, and Federico Chiesa.

However, Gakpo has struggled with consistency this season, failing to score in both the Premier League and the Champions League. Additionally, Chiesa has had ongoing fitness issues since joining from Juventus in the summer.

Recent reports indicate that Liverpool are interested in signing Napoli star Khvicha Kvaratskhelia to bolster their attack, and they are currently leading the chase for his signature. The Azzurri typically place a high price tag on their key players, with claims that they want at least £100 million for the Georgian international.

Transfer journalist Graeme Bailey noted on RTK that Liverpool is closely monitoring Kvaratskhelia’s contract situation with Napoli and is among the few clubs capable of securing him.

Bailey stated, “Kvaratskhelia, obviously Liverpool are one of the many clubs who are keeping close tabs on his contract talks.”

He added, “Liverpool have cemented those good Georgian links with the Mamardashvili deal and every big club in Europe is going to be in the mix if he does become available. There are less than 10 teams who can afford him and Liverpool are one of them.”

Kvaratskhelia has demonstrated his talent in Serie A, contributing to his team’s Scudetto victory in the 2022-23 season. While he typically plays on the left wing, he is also effective in a secondary striker role.

Thus, the 23-year-old could represent an upgrade over Gakpo if Liverpool manages to secure him next year. However, if they part ways with Mohamed Salah—whose contract ends this season—they will also need to recruit a top-tier right winger.

It remains to be seen how Liverpool will approach their offensive reinforcements next year. What do you think—should Liverpool invest £100 million to sign Kvaratskhelia?

Evidence from the international break highlights why Liverpool are title contenders in the Premier League

Evidence from the international break highlights why Liverpool are title contenders in the Premier League.

Liverpool have made a strong start under new head coach Arne Slot, but football fans remain uncertain about whether the Reds can compete for the Premier League title alongside Manchester City and Arsenal.

The Dutch coach’s team currently leads the league after seven matches, boasting six wins and maintaining a perfect record in the UEFA Champions League and EFL Cup.

However, more challenging tests await Liverpool in the coming weeks, which will help determine if the Merseyside club is indeed a title contender.

One argument for Slot’s team being in the title race is that many players were part of last season’s title challenge and possess a winning mentality, in contrast to Arsenal. Additionally, the Liverpool dressing room is filled with leaders, as highlighted during the international break when seven players captained their national teams.

Ibrahima Konate, Virgil van Dijk, Dominik Szoboszlai, Conor Bradley, Andy Robertson, Wataru Endo, and Mohamed Salah all wore the armband for their countries at various times over the past two weeks, according to Anfield Edition.

Slot will be hoping they return to Liverpool in good health as the Reds gear up for their match against Chelsea on Sunday.

Liverpool are in the running for the Premier League title

As agreed upon, Liverpool "makes decision" regarding free agent Liverpool have chosen not to pursue Oumar Solet, who has agreed to join Serie A club Udinese in the January transfer window. The 24-year-old had been considered as a potential replacement for Joel Matip but is now set to move to Udinese after concluding his contract with Red Bull Salzburg this summer. Matip’s departure at the end of last season sparked speculation that Arne Slot might look to bring in a new center-back to Anfield. Matip, who joined Liverpool on a free transfer from Schalke in 2016, ended his tenure at the club due to a series of injuries that impacted his final seasons. Despite these challenges, he was instrumental during Jurgen Klopp's successful era, contributing to the team's triumphs in the Premier League, Champions League, FA Cup, and Carabao Cup. Liverpool may have aimed to achieve similar success with Solet, who demonstrated his capabilities at Salzburg, winning two consecutive Austrian Bundesliga and Austrian Cup doubles during his four-year stint. However, the *Mirror* reports that Solet is close to finalizing his move to Udinese, with both parties having reached an agreement and the Serie A club completing the final steps of the deal. In Saturday’s match against Wolves, Ibrahima Konate scored first but later made a critical error that allowed the visitors to equalize. Slot expressed to Match of the Day, "The goal we conceded was definitely avoidable and it was unnecessary. It came at a bad time because we had total control over the game. By conceding this way, they came back into the game and the good thing for us is we immediately scored to make it 2-1. With only one goal making the difference, it makes it a difficult game until the end."

While it’s uncommon for a new manager to win the Premier League title in their first season, Slot has the opportunity to achieve that this campaign thanks to the squad Jurgen Klopp left behind.

Liverpool is well-equipped across the pitch and appears to be adapting swiftly to the style of play their new head coach desires, a development that reflects the intelligence and caliber of the players at Anfield.

Though Liverpool is not without flaws, the same can be said for Manchester City and Arsenal, making it difficult to argue against the Merseyside club as title contenders for the 2024/25 season.
