During the last moments of Liverpool’s tie with West Ham, Mohamed Salah was furious.

Following Liverpool’s Saturday stalemate with West Ham, Mohamed Salah threatened that “there would be fire” if he talked about his altercation with Jurgen Klopp. The Egyptian appeared to think differently as he moved into the mixed zone, despite Klopp’s claims that the issue was settled with a conversation in the locker room.

In a heated argument with Klopp when Salah was waiting to enter the game as a substitute, Darwin Nunez had to hold him back. Then, following a 2-2 draw, Salah raced down the tunnel as the final whistle revealed that Liverpool’s title challenge was virtually ended.

After the game, Klopp told TNT Sports, “We spoke already in the dressing room, and for me, that’s done.” Salah was similarly silent, but he couldn’t help himself when he passed through the mixed zone, which is where athletes who are entering or leaving the dressing room can stop for interviews.

When Salah was urged to stop and talk, he may be seen on camera saying, “If I speak today there will be fire.” It’s unclear exactly what the manager and player said, but when Salah was named on the bench prior to kickoff, there were raised eyebrows.

When healthy, the 31-year-old is almost always included in the starting lineup for Liverpool, especially when the Reds are in dire need of three points, as they were at the London Stadium. He leads Liverpool’s Premier League goals and assists charts this season.

It took Klopp until the 82nd minute to bring on his lucky striker, and even then, Liverpool lost two more points to end their title hopes. With three weeks to go before the big day, Arsenal and Manchester City are the only two sides still in the running.

Despite the Reds’ attackers’ recent decline in performance, Klopp chose to give them a break in east London. “It is what it is,” he stated to TNT Sports. “The games are visible to you. That’s all—we go through that together because we are together.

“The boys gave everything they had, they fought hard, and they wanted it.” Yes, that’s right—for a few of them, today was just too much. I find it incomprehensible that every time we miss an opportunity, everyone is there yelling at us, yet because a chance is the closest thing we have to achieving our objective, we need to be more optimistic.

“Acknowledge that these kinds of things occur and then repeat the behaviour repeatedly. We performed well, but we couldn’t resolve the circumstances, and we now need to accept it and go forward.

Since joining Liverpool in 2017, Salah has netted 210 goals in 345 games. Klopp signed him in 2017. As he approaches the last year of his contract, only time will tell if the Egyptian sticks around or if he decides to follow Klopp and go.
